Blades Sign First Player

Posted June 17, 2008

Nuts and bolts of this signing are in my story online, but here's some opinion.

This is not really a signing to be jumping up and down about, but Peto should be a solid defenseman. Plus, it's always nice to get someone with championship experience -- Peto won a Kelly Cup with Idaho in '06-07 before leaving to play in England last year.

Peto is not a Cameron recruit, though. He heard about the Blades from '07-08 d-man Steve Czech. The two d-men played against each other in college -- Peto for Minnesota State - Mankato, and Czech for UMN - Duluth. (Can't say I'm not excited about getting some more MN roots for the Blades ... six degrees of separation and all ... )

Anyway, Peto played in England last season, decided he wanted to possibly come back to the U.S., and made a few phone calls to Brush at Czech's suggestion. Then, Peto heard from Cameron on the same day Cameron was officially named the Blades new head coach. That speaks well of Cameron, by the way, getting right down to business. Can't say I'm surprised ...

Peto said today by phone (from his home in Alberta) that Cameron told him he likes d-men who jump up and play with the forwards.

"As soon as I heard that, I was sold," Peto said. "(My contract) got wrapped up pretty quickly ... I'm kind of like the fourth forward up there, and I'll get my points defensively ... but I'll take care of our end first."

Peto had 21 points in 47 games with Idaho and finished his career at Minnesota State with 78 points in 108 games. He's also 25, and brings some experience to the defense.

So one down -- quite a few more to go -- although a few (Lukin, Herauf, Hartlieb, Baker, Bowers, McNabb) -- seem pretty set. Let the signings continue ...

Peto was referred by Czech. Lets just hope he does not play like Czech did.

ANGIE,
Sounds like BRUSHY got this deal done and gave it to CAMERON on a silver platter.

Once again MALLIE making "promises" to these "recruits, hope he can keep half of them..

Would love to do an EXIT interview with his CATTER Team of last season and get their input on him....

Wow, what a sore a$$ you have MFH. Look, I can't quite feel warm and fuzzy about Cam just yet either, however, at least He's better than GF. Let it it go, bury the hatchet and move on! We still have hockey in SWFL and better than average hockey at that.

Did I miss something or didn't Bowers get signed before Peto?

BOWERS:
In Bowers mind he has already signed a contract.....

Mallie has probably already told him he will be starting on the second line...

Bowers' signing isn't official until it's announced by the team -- according to Cameron, the deal isn't done yet.

Just wait a few weeks/days.

blueliner23,
What makes you think Cameron is better than GF?
GF has been to two Kelly Cup Finals. How many Kelly Cup Finals has Cameron been to?

I stand corrected 10th & 11th is correct.
I should have opened the link BHF posted.

It looks like the Stinkrays will have to find a new goalie...

AB I am assuming we can expect some signings shotly...

Stinkrayfan, GF was handed a championship team more than those two "finals" years, but as usual he couldn't control his players.Don't take my word for it, ask some players what happened in Idaho or Trenton. NO discipline! At least, or hope, Cam will bring a little more than Gf did. I still believe that Gf has consistantly been given a better team than Cam has in the past.Again just my opinion.
