No More Applications Needed
Posted May 16, 2008
Big news today is that Blades GM Craig Brush told me that he doesn't need any more applications for the Blades head coaching job.
This doesn't mean Brush has already made his choice -- but it does mean a few other things:
1. He has enough solid candidates not to wait for more applicants.
2. He probably has a very short list of candidates that he wants.
3. He probably does have a favorite but has not decided yet for certain.
4. Anyone whose team is still playing (Glen Gulutzan, Chuck Weber) will probably not apply or be considered.
5. Former Blades assistant P.K. O'Handley probably didn't have time to apply -- his USHL team just ended its season last Saturday. But I haven't talked with O'Handley yet so this is not for sure.
6. John Marks probably also won't get a chance to apply. The Pensacola coach said he was unaware that the Ice Pilots were "leaving the door open" for him to seek other opportunities, as WEAR-3 TV reported in Pensacola. I am planning to touch base with Marks again on Monday after he, in his own words, "makes a few phone calls to figure out what's going on."
But I'm getting the impression he didn't apply for the Blades job/couldn't apply.
7. We can probably expect to see a decision right around June 1. Lots of contracts end at the end of May, meaning whoever the Blades choose would then be free to sign a contract with Florida.

Angie, you say Brush doesn't need... does this also mean he WON'T take anymore applications?

The impression I got was probably not -- he seems happy with what he has gotten and ready to move on to the next step.

No UJ, but nothing will ever stop Bussy from whining, anyway. I am just trying to get the trip OWED to me. He probably thinks I can fly up on that broom he gave me last night, like his cougar could.
MFH - if Bussyfan does not pony up is this actionable?

UJ the difference between me and you is if I give out my digits I get a reture phone call, yours go in the nearest trash can..... LOL
MFH you have "free balling bob" to defend still. I suggest you give him his moneys worth and concentrate more on him.
MFH if you want to get in the habit of tipping more than your usual 10% we will go out to eat. I will help you break that habit.
CHIP I have a feeling tonight is going to be fun. I feel the need to be mischievious... <halo on my head>

Sure would be nice if we could come up with an actual list instead of "interested" people. Just because they are interested, doesn't mean they applied. And no that is not a slam at AB. Just a wish.

Ok, I tried to not do this but it has just bugged me all day.
AB, Texas did not set a league record in most wins. That record is held by Louisanna at 56 wins. Texas had 52 wins this past season not to mention that the Cyclones had 3 more wins than Texas.

MFH-
If you bet the way you have predicted I look, you must have lost a great deal of cash... uh loser...
Oh this is where I restrict my comments to the jerseys... that's right
The entire uniform should be blue - have the name "everblades" written across the front w/ the player's names on the back... and no advertisements across the player's butt -totally undignified and distracting. Dolce & Gabbana watch out; I've found my new calling :o(~
#65 Posted by AloraPurefoy on May 18, 2008 at 9:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)
APF - With a jersey that looks like that, The Blades would be sure to sell about a dozen to fans during the season.
Sports business 101 would tell you that a teams logo and uniform need to be branded to maximize revenue. Your design would be so boring as to hurt the organization financially. Which would hurt the team's ability to recruit the best hockey players available at this level and treat them well.
Maybe instead of Jersey design, you could help out the team better by clipping food recipies and sharing them with the Breakaway staff.

BHF, if you go back and reread that story online, it has been edited to say "Fewest regular season losses" However for some reason there is no note thate the story has been editied or updated, as is often the case with articles at NDN when something has been corrected from it's previously published form.
Wonder why that would be?
#67 Posted by hambling on May 18, 2008 at 11:33 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Here is the quote (just cut and pasted from AB's online article, a few moments ago) which was the correction of the article which BHF found to be factually incorrect and noted above.
"Cameron, whose Texas team set a league record for fewest regular season losses in 2007-08"
However a QUICK fact check of the ECHL end of season standings shows that Cincinati had a total of 17 regular season loses in the 07-08 season and Texas had a toal of 20 regular season loses.
Cincinati 12 regulation time losses, 1 Overtime losses, and 4 shoot-out losses (total of 17 losses)
Texas 9 regulation time losses, 4 overtime losses, and 7 shoot out losses (toal of 20 losses)
Time to re-edit the already edited article.

Not to perpetuate this discussion but ... the definition of regular season losses has changed over the years in the ECHL.
If you ask most of the coaches, they won't really consider overtime/shootout losses in the regular season as straight-up losses. Especially since they get a point for both.
One of the most remarkable things about the Wildcatters' regular season this past year was that they lost just nine times in regulation ... that was the point of the stat.
Were you guys always the ones in class who raised their hands to correct the teacher when something was wrong on the blackboard -- even if the error didn't affect the lesson's overall point?
Was anyone else annoyed by those kids?
Just kidding -- I know I can always be more careful when it comes to stats. :)

Ham, in the records book on the ECHL, they in fact do seperate regulation losses with OT and SO losses. With that being said, AB you are a reporter and once upon a time facts were an important part of reporting and reporting correctly. What is funny is that you think we are the only ones correcting your mistakes. Your mistakes and speculations are being posted on the league message board and you are quickly becoming the joke of reporters. That is not intended to be mean, it is intended for a wake up call. Blades fans are not only proud of their team but once upon a time, we were proud of the coverage this team received. The Blades receive more coverage than the majority of the league put together and because you don't take time to check your facts or have chosen to take an approach of belittling the abilities of visiting teams, that honor of having great coverage is going in the toilet.
How is that for annoying?

One of the most remarkable things about the Wildcatters' regular season this past year was that they lost just nine times in regulation ... that was the point of the stat.

That would have been a GREAT statement for the article! However, you origionally choose to make a "record book" statement about Texas wins, then upon realizing the incorrectness made a "Record book" statement about losses.
AB, my point is that you have been the beat writer for the Everblades, for over a year now. Duing that time frame, your readers have come to realize that we can not trust the facts found in your articles. We all make errors, but your factual errors are an ongoing event. It seems, to me, that having nice writting style is more important to you than getting the facts correct.
It is kind of like how Oliver Stone directs movies. The story line is more important than being historically corret.
Am I being critical? YOU BET. You are the one hired to inform Southwest Florida about the Everblades, so the community needs to be able to trust your articles. As our former coach, Gerry Flemming, would say, "It's time for accountablility"

Man...rough crowd today. Are we using this blog as a daily source of information or merely for enjoyment, i.e. a way to stay connected during the offseason? Am in in SW Florida or Philadelphia? This blog is definitely taking on a "Philly" attitude.... Stay strong AB....(but watch the facts a little bit more... :-) )

How did I get roped into being the "hand raiser" that corrects the teacher ... and "brown noser" (wtfreak) ... ? Tis very funny considering my profession. The pent up frustration some of you have is absolutely ha-freakin'-larious! NerdenHAMer is the one w/ all the numbers ... not little, sweet, innocent me! I'm waiting patiently for the CB's announcement and sending well wishes to all bloggers ... be still my "liberal bleeding heat" :o) (verbal irony)
I definitely think it will be my #2 choice.

#82 Posted by SDW on May 19, 2008 at 2:32 p.m. (Suggest removal)
If I wanted to read FICTION I'd go to Barnes & Noble and get a book from the "FICTION" section. If I want to read actual FACTS and REAL bonifided information about my local ice hockey team than I should be able to go to the local newspaper to get that infomation. Instead I find aticles written with more speculation and personal opinions expressed by the writer than actual correct facts and bonifided information...Was a MAJOR qualification for the Blog/Sports writer job at NDN to be able to write a short FABLE? Until Andy left I (as well as others) believed a professional writer was suppose to stick with the FACTS and not throw in their own conjecture into an article that required only facts...hmmmm how annoying is that? to have a writer just salt an article with incorrect facts and their own opinions on matters they haven't a clue about because they need to use so many words in order to "cover their assets" regarding the lenght of the article...hmmm really how annoying is that?...VERY!
CONJECTURE:
1. the formation or expression of an opinion or theory without sufficient evidence for proof.
2. an opinion or theory so formed or expressed; guess; speculation.
3. the interpretation of signs or omens.
AND FINALLY: (the one that says it all)
4. to conclude or suppose from grounds or evidence insufficient to ensure reliability.

So SDW, are you saying that AB whines to the players? Interesting.

CSA sooner or later one of my wild guesses had to come true. LOL
Actually I had thought it was "her" all along....
Ladies you may not like AB but this is her job/career/life you are screwing with. Some of her articles have messed up stats. Maybe she is doing it on purpose to make you grind your teeth because that's exactly what your doing.
Ladies if someone was to hound on you all the time and eventually it costed you your job how would you feel what would you do after that?????
AB has the last laugh so far by getting you all bent out of shape.
CSA/PFRANK Cameron may get the calling but I think Wyman may br onto something. There have been a lot of applications submitted that we know nothing about. It's time to go outside the box and snatch someone up from another league or something.
MFH I was not around at this time last year so how could I have got banned.

Bussy, as a rule I don't like to make anybody lose a job BUT there are exceptions to every rule. It was one thing when she made the mistakes when she first got here but more than a year later and there are FACTS (easy to confirm, facts) that she still reports inaccurately and then has the nerve to say we are annoying because we point out her mistakes, this may be the exception. You are hired to do a job that is based on facts and you have the nerve to call people annoying, it is time to get off the high horse and either become reliable or change jobs.

Bussyfan, I am not a lady either. Bussy we can disagree but you are wong with your thinking. You didn't want to go back to Haney's because you didn't feel the waitress was good enough. One trip, one impression and you were ready to go somewhere else. This has been going on for over a year. I think we have been very patient and would have not continued on today if it had not been for her remarks. This job is a joke to her. There is no pride otherwise she would do her homework before she wrote articles with incorrect information. Heck I didn't even point out one mistake that was so far off the mark that it wasn't even funny from one of her articles but I will now just for the heck of it. She wrote an article before the playoffs stating that in the regular season, teams dressed 16 skaters but for the playoffs they dress 18. WRONG.. Do I want her to lose her job, no but do I want her to be accurate, yes and if she can't figure out how to do that then I guess she should move on. Don't you think the players should be released or traded when they don't play up to your expectations? Don't say no because I am sure we can go back and find some posts that say you did. Honeymoon is over for the reporter.

BHF first off there was a reason why I mentioned Haney's service. It was to stir the pot. I had no issue at all.
No need to go find posts of mine I agree that if players are playing above par they should be traded (below par is better in golf terms LOL).
If it is that big of an issue you ladies (HAM included) need to contact her editor or something. Maybe a little fire under AB'S posterior will help????
I guess I feel sorry for AB. Bad fact checker or not I do have a heart and she has been beaten beyond reconition.
Alorapurefoy I can get something together for Sat. night in GCTC. If I do will you join in on the fun?????

MFH Dek23 is the spot on SoBe, but in ur case I think it's Dik49? and I don't have to TRY to get into any place - save that for the less than attractive people who wear stupid Tommy Bahama shirts - such as yourself (big hugs lots of love)
