Frame-it ... more than a frame store

Posted July 1, 2008

We were going to dinner at La Fontenella this week and we wandered past this shop in the strip mall at Pelican Landing. In the window was the most exquisite mirror I have seen, so I had to go back during store hours to find out about it.

Ellie Stevenson is the artist from Sanibel who created this masterpiece. It is one-of-a-kind, made of shells and mosaic with iridescent stones and pearls. But the best part is, it featured several of her signature pieces, her delicate handcrafted mermaids with long string-like hair.

The mirror is called Secrets of the Sea and is priced at $730. It is so outstanding that I will feature it as one of my Hot Buys soon! Ellie also makes the mermaids as towel hooks, several were in the store for $36 with the same wonderful detail as on the mirror.

Vickie was very helpful pointing out the many items by local artist that were carried in the store. Rod Becklund from Port Charlotte hand carves birds, pelicans and herons. They were very life-like. An artist from Naples makes animals from palm fronds, giraffes, elephants, etc.

William Carroll Design from Naples offers greeting cards and there were greeting cards from Doug McGregor.

FRAME-IT also sells custom made jewelry $25-200 and darling little bejeweled purses. Of course you would expect to find frames here. There were some very lovely shell encrusted frames for small pictures, I think they were for pictures 5x7.They feature quality custom and ready made picture frames. The wall was covered with a huge selection of samples of the frames in every color imaginable, in any size you want and whatever matt you want to go with it.

The ready made frames come in standard sizes and are in stock ready to go. There is a good selection of tropical frames popular with the snow birds. Also find many framed prints in various sizes.

Other gifts to be found are hand blown perfume bottles in different sizes from $10. Adorable ceramic fish $30-90. Colorful ceramic art from Mexico for your walls in frogs, geckos, sharks and porpoise. An absolutely beautiful parrot that contains Butterfly Quartz, Serpentine, Red Jasper, Turquoise and Onyx at $250.

You can purchase a digital photo frame that holds photos, a clock, alarm and calendar for $145. So you can see there are many things to choose from gift wise. But if you have a piece of art to be framed this is the place to go for quality workmanship!

FRAME-IT is located at 24600 S. Tamiami Trail #216 in the Shoppes at Pelican Landing in Bonita Springs. Phone: 948-1442. Hours: Mon-Fri 10-5, Sat 10-3
