Pedestrian killed after being struck by car on Marco Island

An elderly Brooklyn man is dead after he and his wife were struck by a car while crossing Bald Eagle Drive Sunday night on Marco Island.

Alan O’Hea, 72, suffered fatal injuries when he was reportedly hit by a Honda Civic driven by Luke Vergo, 23, of Marco Island, a city press release states. His wife, Jeanne O’Hea, 69, was also struck by the car and suffered serious injuries before being transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

She underwent surgery for her injuries Sunday night and remains in surgical intensive care, a hospital representative said Monday.

The O'Heas also have an address on Marco Island.

The accident took place just before 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Bald Eagle Drive and Chalmers Drive, according to the release. The vehicle was apparently traveling north on Bald Eagle Drive.

Investigation of the accident is apparently ongoing, and those with information are being asked to contact the Marco Island Police Department at 389-5050.
