Collier County sheriff's deputies arrested two people Tuesday and charged them with running an indoor marijuana grow house in Golden Gate. The bust is the 15th of suspected marijuana grow houses that the sheriff's office has shut down this year.

Eduardo Garcia Ochil, 36, 4474 3rd Ave. N.W., Golden Gate, and Dayami Fournier, 38, 4280 Jefferson Lane, North Naples, were each charged with marijuana trafficking over 25 pounds and possession of narcotic equipment.

Reports say deputies uncovered 35 marijuana plants with a street value of $105,000 from a garage at Ochil's residence that had been converted into a marijuana grow operation.

Deputies also turned up equipment such as transformers, high-intensity light bulbs, buckets, breaker panels used to grow marijuana, reports said. The equipment was valued at $5,000.

I was wondering which day this week they would make a grow house bust.

Sad..too lazy to earn an "honest" living.

35 plants that are worth $105,000 equals $3,000 a plant! Buys a lot of gas!
Anone know if this G.G., or G.G. Estates?

I think the teachers could find an alternative source of income here...........

eaglebeak: The address is in the Estates. South of Vanderbilt Road and WEST of 951 (Collier Blvd.)

I use http://maps.google.com/ or the property appraiser's website to find where these crime houses are located.

beats working for $10 bucks an hour at some local establishment UNLESS you get caught- then you're up a river without a paddle. I guess the financial rewards are worth the risk!

Somebody call Julie Sprague! There are a couple of new tenants for her summer house.

Tip; Don't include electric Julie.

These grow houses are starting to pop up closer to town than the originals. Shows that everyone needs to stay alert to the goings on in their neighborhood.

Keep busting them CCSO.

Hey ecoterror, the kids are already hooked on Ritalin which is the cheminal equivalent of meth or speed. All legal and very lucrative.

The mortgage/foreclosure crisis has left homes abandoned. Other homes may be bought by nefarious characters looking for an opportunity to set up a grow house or other illegal base of activity. If you don't know your neighbors now...it is a good time to meet them. Keep an eye on your neighborhood and report anything unusual to CCSO.

Crooks like to hide in plain sight!

Watch out Naples.....they're moving closer to town.

ecoterror... lol... Big Macs and high-fructose corn syrup are more dangerous than pot? you are ridiculous... funny -- but ridiculous.

#12 Posted by Rachael on April 23, 2008 at 12:24 p.m. (Suggest removal)

eco...are you working to legalize dope? If it ever is legal, fine. I will have no problem with it. The thing with illegal activity is that CRIMINALS are involved with it. I hate crooks.

Why not utilize your talents to promote good health habits?

#13 Posted by BlueTonguedVole on April 23, 2008 at 12:59 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I think eco is "in tune" with the earth today. Hopefully he won't be using heavy machinery such as operating a car or lawn mower. Opps, bet a lawn mower is not in tune with the earth. The little blades of grass will be yelling for help as the blade approaches.

LOL.

naplestrek: most likely the grow houses are part of a syndicate operated out of Miami or other area. Buy a house or rent it...put your indentured workers into the homes and reap the $$$ without paying sales tax etc.
I believe CCSO is fully aware of this set up and taking continuing measures to break this up.

Too bad the crooks don't use their creativity in a positive way.

Ecoterror

RE: "...behaviors that stand in contrast to the capitalistic tenants on which this country depends..."

Tenants or tenets? A funny malapropism--I gues we do depend on capitalistic tenants--to pay the rent!

I just thought of another question for ecoterror.

Eco, dude, are you fully self sufficient in your indoor farming or poppy propagation? If you are not and make purchases to get in tune with the earth, how is this exchange not based on the terrible tenets of Capitalism?

Just curious.

#16 Posted by BlueTonguedVole on April 23, 2008 at 2:04 p.m. (Suggest removal)

ECO

the houses getting busted are all by hispanic growers.

when i lived in CA. I was around many growing operations. Orange County, Humbolt County, Riverside County.

There was no specific race associated to the houses. There was however a chain of command. The people in the house did not smoke pot while in the house. People revolved watching plants on schedule. And unfortunatley there were at times guns involved.

The operations are criminal. There is major profiteering going on. Names change constantly.

But it was not a niche hispanic venture market.

What i think is happening in SWFL is an organized syndicate knowing that the housing bubble popped and there is room for "growth".

Now somewhere down the crimeline someone speaks spanish found some stupid dope to sit in a house for 3 months and make an easy couple of grand.

The people getting turned in can never rat out the person setting it up because they will never know the name. Not because of language but because of degrees of seperation.

ecoterror... It is also a fact that the chemicals in dark colored sodas as well excessive sugars leach calcium from ones bones causing premature bone density loss and eventually could lead to osteoporosis. That is one reason that so many young peole are know being diagnosed with osteoporosis.

Eco;
Allow me to play devils advocate,
You seem to be quite anti-capitalist, worried about the poor Chinese kids working 18 hours in the sweat shops making pennies a day so we can buy cheap clothes and whatever............
However, I have noticed that quite a few of these busts also have arrests for weapons. I also believe there are a few murders every year associated with drug deals.(according to the law, pot is a drug) So you must not have any problem with someone getting killed so you can buy your pot cheap? Or, that there are a few middlemen that get a cut of the money? Isn't that capitalism??

President Bush:
Legalize marijuana and you'll make amens for all the wrongs and lies your administration has caused and done over the past 7+ years.

#22 Posted by bicoastal on April 23, 2008 at 3:17 p.m. (Suggest removal)

bicoastal, do you really think the Executive Branch has the authority to "legalize" anything without an act from Congress? Just curious if you were being humorous.

Well eco, have fun with flowers. Glad you keep your fun to yourself.

#23 Posted by BlueTonguedVole on April 23, 2008 at 3:52 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Marijuana should be legal, but with a prescription. States with Medical Marijuana laws (12 already) claim it reduces the criminal element (there will always be some). Even if it's easy to get a prescription at least there is a written record of who is allowed to have possession legally. The grow operations can be monitored and limited by law. It can all be taxed as well of course.

It should be legal only for use in private homes or licensed establishments requiring a prescription to enter.

People should know that many who want to reform marijuana laws aren't trying to turn us into a country of burnouts. That's no better than a country full of alcoholics or pill abusers. We just don't see good reason for so many tax dollars being spent trying to eradicate this basically benign little plant. Let's control it, and try to get the criminal element out of it as much as possible.

Marijuana has been used for thousands of years. It's been illegal for about 75. I think someday all this fuss about this plant will be blip on history's radar screen.

Ecoterror stated that growing poppies is legal in the USA. Well, some poppies appear NOT to be legal.

Found this interesting exchange on a gardening website (see the last post especially.)

http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/lo...

Also see this link: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/30606

I wouldn't think it would be wise to grow certain varieties (like the opium poppy) unless you want to have a visit from the DEA.

"A stoner is concerned with ethereal thoughts, not invading sovereign nations. Marijuana leads not to harder drugs, but rather to a realm of seeing the world as it is, not as corporate marketers have sold us -- that a good life can be forged only through spending and consumption. Marijuana puts us in tune with the earth -- the earth that sustains our lives."

Ecoterror,
I'm in favor of legalazition as much as you are, but don't you think you're speading it a little thick here?
Most stoners are not in tune with the Earth as much as they are with the TV remote and the sofa, as they overconsume saturated fats, and think of ever more creative uses of the word "dude".

It is so amusing to see how these comments progress. You all make very good points (well – most of you). Did anyone stop to think they are simply growing these plants to harvest the fiber. It’s such a versatile fiber which can be used in almost anything. They do it in protest for all the American Indians whose fiber crops are chopped down by the ATF. Hey – we took away most of their land and slaughtered their population. Let’s tell them what they can and can’t grow on the little bit of land they have left.

But seriously - back to some scary facts for those of you who didn’t realize I’m kidding. If you caught the news the other day they did a report on what was done with all the equipment that is seized from these busts. The give it to High Schools! That’s right folks – they give it to your children so they can learn to grow things hydroponically. Does anyone other than me see the beginning of a cycle here? “So Jimmy – what are you going to do after you graduate?” “Oh I was just thinking I would use all the great info I learned in HS on how to operate and maintain a grow house to cultivate Marijuana. Sure as hell beets a summer internship and pays a whole lot more!”

God help us……….

Wouldn't be ironic that if all these owners of the growhouses were sold real estate under dubious conditions, and yet are making the mortage payments? Probably paying off the mortage early.

Who is picking these crops? The greedy growers need to pay at least a penny a pound more so the poor migrant workers can earn a decent living.
