New Bonita Springs mayor will be sworn in Monday

Ben Nelson celebrates winning the Bonita Springs mayoral runoff Tuesday night with his daughter Megan Nelson.

MICHEL FORTIER / Daily News

Ben Nelson celebrates winning the Bonita Springs mayoral runoff Tuesday night with his daughter Megan Nelson.

Although Bonita Springs' newest elected mayor begins his term in office on Friday, Ben Nelson will not be sworn in until Monday.

On Monday, Nelson will be sworn in as Bonita Springs third mayor following Paul Pass and Jay Arend. The ceremony will take place before the City Council zoning hearing at 9 a.m. in city hall.

Nelson defeated Arend 63 percent to 37 percent in the mayoral run-off election on April 8.

Arend's last day as mayor will be Thursday; he was honored at the April 16 council meeting for his four years of service as mayor and eight years on City Council total.

Ben, The reason I voted for you is that I thought you would be the one that would clean up old 41 so that we can get some quality businesses there. Unless that is done we will never be able to use the downtown aria.
