Former Naples High principal wants back in school district

Former Naples High School Principal Rosanne Winter said she would like to take the reins at another Collier County school.

Winter, who was principal at Naples High from 2004 to 2006 before moving away from the area, confirmed that she is back in town and has applied for a principal position at all school levels.

Since leaving Naples, Winter has served as vice president of Winter Associations, LLC, in which she consulted with kindergarten to high schools to assist them in organizational improvement. She also served as vice president of White Hat Management, where she oversaw academic-related aspects of three cyber charter schools, one each in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Colorado.

Allun Hamblett, executive director of human resources for the Collier school district, said Winter did apply to the district and had been interviewed, but said she did not receive either principal job at Barron Collier or Golden Gate high schools.

“The fit wasn’t there,” he said. “You can be a very successful principal, but if it doesn’t work well, it’s not right.”

Hamblett said when applicants apply, they must meet a certain amount of criteria and guidelines set forth by the district and the state. The criteria includes being able to be certified in Florida.

An internal review team, which includes members of the human resource staff and district principals, screen the applications of those who meet the minimum district requirements, Hamblett said. Once the committee has selected candidates, interviews are set up.

Once the interviews are completed, the committee comes up with a pool of principals that they believe would do a good job and the superintendent has to approve the pool, Hamblett said.

Hamblett said Superintendent Dennis Thompson has taken a greater interest in the hiring and firing of administrators since coming to the district in August.

“He has sat in on the interviews and he will usually ask the candidates a question,” Hamblett said. “He has really looked at the candidates that have come in.”

Hamblett said the goal of the district is to match the school with the principal’s strengths.

But don’t count Winter out yet. She has had experience at both the elementary and middle school levels. In an e-mail to the Naples Daily News, Winter said she wants to return to education, admitting that she never really left it.

Yea, Thompson has taken a greater interest in the hiring and firing of administrators - LOL - since before he arrived here - budzynski was here a week after they all congregated here - house hunting and choosing her school - Thompson also tried to pass off the Kutz's as being from Lee County - NOT TRUE - This has all been preplanned with more to come - they have finally found their niche right here in Rockford on the gulf - The caller the other night hit the nail on the head - Funny thing he said, that Rockford had such a high concentration of highly qualified people for such a h--l hole, as opposed to Naples that really has no quality people..... right down to the groundskeepers.....

Mary, Martha and Thompson, make somewhere else your home.

Sorry Mrs. Winter, but there are Illinois residents who are enjoying the chance at becoming administrators here.
Because "let me tell you the way we did it in Illinois..blah, blah, blah, blah, blah"....will make the difference to the students here.
There are great classroom positions open now, as teachers will be leaving if they don't get raises.

A story about a principal who left her job in Collier County and now would like to be reemployed is hardly news.
Certainly this reporter can dig up something just a bit more interesting and newsworthy.

My mother had a saying- " A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush". This lady had a great position at NHS , chose to leave it, and now she wants back. Better off getting a Real Estate license!

1. Clarification to post #4. Dr. Winter left, not by her own choice, but because her husband was offered a position in Nevada.

2. Sorry to hear that Dr. Winter does not fit in here in Collier County. She displayed some couragous leadership when she was here. Maybe she should run for School Board instead.

was she the one who videotaped the kids dancing at prom and got all upset about how they were bumping and grinding each other on the dance floor?

Winters was not the VP of White Hat Management. She managed one of the smallest divisions, and often referred to herself as the "Ice Queen".

Her job jacket will always bear "short-timer" & loyalty a question..she bolted before she found the gym...bad time to be looking for a job...especially with the district short on money and the incorporation of the buddy system..

Dr. Winter would be a perfect candidate for School Board, if she could stand the cut in pay. Can you imagine her being Thompson's boss? They could raise enough in ticket sales to the Board meeting to give the teachers a raise.

Winters IS THE ICE QUEEN...

I have a child who attended NHS when she was the principal. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME I asked "WHERE IS DAN WHITE?" Winters and Graham have taken NHS down the tubes.

I attended NHS when Dan White was the principal, he looks like a KING compared to these last two.

Winters shouldn't be able to return to Collier!!!!!!!! Just like the teachers are not going to return to their jobs next year. We need to make room for ROCKFORD TRASH

let me tell you something...winters is here to save ccps and thompson is not allowing it. What a PHENOMENAL principal we could have.

Why should she get her job back? She left. There are enough dedicated people here already that didn't leave that need to keep their jobs in this troubled time of economy and District Schools problems.

Some of these posted comments lack appreciation for the wonderful job Dr. Rosanne Winter did during her 2 years at Naples High School. I suspect some folks didn’t care for her insistence on discipline. She was tough, but always fair. Dr. Winter worked closely with teachers, students and parents and it should be noted that she took Naples High School from a “D” to a “B” school on the FCAT test in her FIRST year as Principal. Also, making assumptions that she left the area because of the economy is just speculation…she may have had personal reasons for leaving and comments like that are unfounded and unfair. I don’t doubt that Superintendent Thompson has selected some fine people to fill the positions in Collier County. I only hope folks will recognize the phenomenal job Dr. Winter did and the positive impact she had on so many in such a short time.

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties.
