Naples firefighters battled a blaze that destroyed two businesses and a storage unit Friday in the 900 block of 28th Avenue North.
The first 911 call came in at 8:37 p.m. and by 9 p.m. the building was fully engulfed.
Flames were seen coming from the roof and heavy plumes of smoke filled the air.
The building contained two businesses: Euphoria Hair Design, 955 28th Ave. N., and Master Designer Florist, 961 28th Ave N. Andre’s Steakhouse, directly behind the structure at 2800 U.S. 41 N. also has a storage unit in the building.
Miguel Zacarias, owner of Euphoria Hair Design, stood and watched the building burn.
“My whole world is upside down,” Zacarias said. “Are you kidding me? This is a nightmare.”
Zacarias said his business has been at the location since 1983. When he left the business at 7:30 p.m., he said the only things that were plugged in were the washer and dryer and the air conditioner.
“Never, ever has anything happened like this,” Zacarias said.
Kim Fisher, who rented a chair at Euphoria Hair Design, was unsure about her future.
“We have no business as of right now,” Fisher said.
Both said they have insurance.
Chief Victor Morales of the Naples Police and Fire Department said no one was injured battling the blaze, which was contained just before 10 p.m. About 35 firefighters from the Naples, East Naples and North Naples fire departments fought the fire. At least three engines, one ambulance and about six other squad cars and vehicles were on the scene.
The 900 block of 28th Avenue North was blocked off as firefighters battled the blaze.
The state fire marshal will investigate its cause, Morales said.
The owner of Master Designer Florist was listed as Ziad Alaidy on the Collier County Property Appraiser's Web site.
A crowd of people gathered to watch the building burn from across the street in the Courtyard Inn parking lot.
Todd Charlesworth of Michigan stood in the parking lot with his girlfriend, Jill Meier.
“We’re on the other side (of the Inn) when we saw the smoke and we thought maybe the hotel was on fire,” Charlesworth said.

Second florist shop to burn recently, is there a trend? I hear the flower business is in the toilet due to economy, discretionary spending and all.
If you're next to one, better put in sprinklers.

Fathead...you really are a fathead, or for that matter a bonehead for making that comment. Lose your business someday and see how the shoe fits, d**khead.

Wow...great work on this job by our firefighters, our finest! Greg Kahn really captured the heat and smoke as well as the anguish of the spectators. A very sad story but very good reporting.
