Investigators determined that a blaze that destroyed two businesses and a storage unit on Friday night in Naples was an electrical fire that started in a light fixture in the ceiling.
"Somehow or another it short circuited back to the breaker panel," Naples Fire Chief Jim McEvoy said.
The fire engulfed the free-standing building behind Andre’s Steakhouse at 8:37 p.m., gutting the two businesses inside: Euphoria Hair Design, 955 28th Ave. N., and Master Designer Florist, 961 28th Ave. N. Andre’s also had a storage unit inside the building.
About 35 firefighters had the fire contained just before 10 p.m.
It doesn’t appear any fault can be placed with the business owners. The state fire marshal determined the fire started in a fluorescent light fixture in the ceiling, McEvoy said.
"It was one of the bigger ones we’ve had in the last couple of years," McEvoy said.
McEvoy said the building has been condemned.
