Sheila’s Out Shopping: Steam heat

I usually take two suitcases when I travel, but to save the newly imposed luggage fees I packed everything into one on my last trip. Unfortunately, things got squished and my clothes were wrinkled when I reached my destination. I decided I needed a good travel iron or steamer to help me out of my dilemma. A few stores had some good alternatives.

My first stop was Target, where I found the Shark compact iron and steamer combination ($24.79). You just flip the handle and the iron becomes a steamer. It’s small enough to pack, though. Since I don’t know if it holds enough water to steam a suitcase full of clothes, this might be better as an iron. They also had a steam and press steam brush by Rowenta ($29.99). I like the Rowenta brand and thought this might work. It has a dual voltage, which is good for European travel, and comes with a lint and fabric brush. It also has its own pouch, which makes it convenient for traveling.

I found a Rowenta travel steam iron ($29.99) at Bed Bath & Beyond. It’s small, has a folding handle, travel pouch and weighs less than two pounds. It also has a dual voltage. This is probably my best bet and will be the most useful. I also looked at Rowenta’s ultra-steam steam brush ($39.99). It’s bigger than the one at Target and has a wide steam head. I liked it, but thought it was too big to be practical for traveling.

I learned that it does pay to let off steam occasionally.

Ike likes it

My husband brought home the newest cracker from Kraft: Macaroni and Cheese Baked Crackers (the introductory offer is two for $5 at Publix and there is also a product coupon). Ike was skeptical, but then he tried one or two and kept going back for more. He bought the cheddar flavor, but they also come in white cheddar and mild cheddar flavors.

The verdict: The macaroni shaped crackers have a very cheesy flavor and are addictive. They are great by the handful or served with some grapes or other fruit. These are a winner, and I am anxious to taste the two other flavors. They leave the other cheese crackers wanting.
