— Authorities say a 1-year-old girl was found wandering in the street in Bradenton after her mother left her home alone.

Authorities say 33-year-old Martha Navis-Torres told deputies her 1-year-old daughter was sleeping when she left for about 15 minutes to pick up her son from school Monday afternoon.

A witness told deputies the infant stood in the middle of the street while cars swerved around the girl and honked their horns.

Navis-Torres was arrested and charged with child neglect. She was released after posting $1,000 bail.

My gosh - the stupidity of some people!!! So true rhinohoof - we would be the ones paying for any treatment for injuries, etc. if something would have happened. This country needs to DO SOMETHING about this situation - think about these things come November - illegal immigration and health care!!!! And yes! Why didn't someone stop and see what was going on?

I think NDN isn't allowing the e-mail links any more. You clink on their name and it says 'contact this person' but it doesn't go through.

AnotherPOV makes a good point, and its that very thinking and attitude of people that has unraveled the morales, compassion and decency of the country. Sure every now and again you hear of a heroic deed, but they are few and far between.

Imagine you're driving to work one morning and a little baby toddles out in front of your car. HONK HONK!!! GET OUT MY WAY I'M LATE FOR WORK!!!

The mother has no excuse..I just can't believe the heartlessness of the neighbors...

Indeed the mother is an idiot, but the traffic just blowing horns? That's hard to believe.
Hey, would anybody care if that blogger's handle was "notsocutecowgirl? Talk about desperate.

I've known of people to stop when they see a dog, guess a baby does not rate. Those who drove by this child are as bad, if not worse, than the mother.
