Steffanie Hinson, of San Carlos Park, said she was confused when she saw a woman dropping off a hefty English Bulldog from a car on Pennsylvania Avenue in Bonita Springs. Hinson said she saw a woman release the dog from a green Toyota Camry on the afternoon of Aug. 6.
“It was beyond me why someone would drop off a dog like that,” said Hinson, who was on her way to a friend’s house. With their wrinkled mugs that many find adorable, registered English Bulldogs can cost as more than $1,000 dollars.
Perplexed, Hinson left the scene, but returned 30 minutes later to find the male dog still wandering aimlessly about the neighborhood. She decided to pick the canine up.
“Someone obviously didn’t want him or stole him and couldn’t take care of him,” she said.
Hinson took the dog home, gave him a bath and started looking for a home the wayward canine. She tried to locate the owner through a local humane society but was unsuccessful.
Hinson finally found a home for the dog with friends living in Jacksonville. Then she heard about an article in The Banner about a missing English Bulldog.
It turned out the dog she found was Titan, the 5-year-old pooch that was reported missing in the Aug. 13 edition of The Banner. Titan went misssing from the Frost’s residence in Bonita Springs on Aug. 4, when the dog was let out of the house, a common occurance. Several minutes later, Titan was nowhere to be found. The Frost family supsected theft.
Hinson called the Frost family and turned the dog over to Dr. Amy’s Animal Hospital in San Carlos Park.
“A week later and he would have been in Jacksonville,” said Hinson, who was happy to Titan find his home. “As long as he’s with their family, I’m OK.”
A relieved Jay Frost took his 3-year-old son, Jason Lane, to pick Titan up on Friday, Aug. 15 — 11 days after he went missing.
Although the dog had to be treated for dehydration, Frost said Titan was in good health.
The Frost family was thankful to have their beloved pet return home. Jay Frost said his sons, Jason Lane and A.J., were thrilled to have their dog safely home again.
And Titan?
Said Frost, “He was happy to be home for sure.”
