Editorial: Park gives back by hosting a concert for worthy cause

When King Richard’s Family Fun Park in North Naples came close to being developed as a residential neighborhood a few years ago, citizens let it be known the amusement park had earned a soft spot in their hearts.

They did a happy dance when it was announced King Richard’s would remain King Richard’s on Airport-Pulling Road North.

Now, as if to say “thank you,” the park hosted a rock concert over the weekend to benefit a cancer charity, LIGHT of Southwest Florida, which provides financial aid for patients and their families.

What a nice gesture — ironically in sync with the charity efforts of a Naples radio host with a soundalike name, Rich King, whose community foundation for kids in need carries on following his death in 2003.

But we digress. We have a fresh reason to be glad King Richard’s is still around. Over the weekend tunes heavier than “Happy Birthday” ruled inside the castle walls, although still for kids.
