Driver fails DL test after hitting building; examiner goes to hospital

— A Jacksonville woman trying to get her driver's license is probably going to need some more practice.

Florida Highway Patrol says 24-year-old Preethi Naidu Ramamoorthy was pulling into a space behind the driver's license office after finishing her road test Wednesday morning. That's when troopers say she accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake and ran into the building.

The instructor was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Ramamoorthy was not injured, and the building did not appear to be damaged.

Ramamoorthy was issued a citation for an improper stop.

She did not receive a driver's license.

cabbagepalm: yes, I agree and after all she did come to a stop! LOL.

Glad the examiner only had minor injuries. He will be covered by worker's comp sunshine. The building will be probably covered by the taxpayer unless the State decides to sue the new driver....probably not worth it.

Perhaps these examiners should get hazard pay, I am sure it isn't the first time one wound up banged up.

I didn't realize you actually had to pass some sort of test to get a Florida DL.

I've driven in most states, and by far, Florida drivers are the worst.

To answer the inevitable response, no, it's not those people from "up north" that make it that way. It's a collective effort.

mthalo, I vote for the visiting Michiganders who take the trophy as the worst followed by the Canadians and the unlicensed undocumented who have no insurance and can't even "drive" a bicycle well.

yeah ryu, but the simulators they have now are so terrible. when i took driver's ed at gulf coast high school (5 yrs ago), they never let us in a real car on the road until we'd passed the simulator tests. i did really well on all of that, but once i got in the car, i tried to drive it like i did the simulator. well let me tell you it was completely different. i had to learn to drive all over again and kick the habits that i picked up from the simulator. it took me twice as long to learn to drive. anyway, technology is pretty fast, so i guess 5 years might have made a big difference, but i think they should really run more tests on those simulators before they start using them in the dmv's...
