NAPLES The Florida Highway Patrol announced today that it is stepping up its enforcement operations and teaming up with other law enforcement agencies across the state to prepare for the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The FHP will increase visibility and enforcement efforts beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 29 through midnight Sept. 1, according to a press release. The agency will target three specific causes of highway fatalities: speeding, impaired driving and failure to use occupant restraints.
Auxiliary and reserve troopers will be volunteering their time to assist regular troopers during the heightened holiday enforcement weekend.
The FHP urges all drivers to dial *FHP (*347) to report drunk or aggressive drivers. Drivers can also use this number if their vehicle breaks down or they need assistance.
Motorists should dial 911 during emergencies.

Increase visibility?
You mean a cop on every street; in every water way? This added protection does nothing to deterr crime, in fact, when made as obvious as NDN just has by writing this, criminals will automatically use proceeding days to do their dirty work. After all, isn't that totally obvious?
Let's be honest, the only criminal police will be catching that day is your average joe, drunk and behind the wheel. Truly these people are worth catching, but it is the smart criminals, the thinkers, that create the most damage, and thus serve to be the highest priority for arresting.
Nice try. Good luck.
