NAPLES A 35-year-old North Naples man was arrested Wednesday after police say he rented a car for a day in June and returned it more than two months later after the business was closed for the night.
Michael Charles Centrella, 35, 742 103rd Ave. N., was charged with fraud - failure to redeliver a hired vehicle.
On May 6, Centrella rented a 2007 Chevy Malibu for one day from Hertz, 850 Seagate Drive, Naples police said. Centrella paid $29.11 for the one-day rental and gave Hertz an address on Vanderbilt Drive.
Centrella failed to return the car the next day and in the weeks to come, reports said. Hertz attempted to contact him by mail, called his cell phone, and sent a repossession company to his home to collect the car to no avail.
Hertz also attempted to bill Centrella’s credit card for the additional charges, but was unsuccessful, police said.
The car was reported stolen on July 14.
A detective went to the address Centrella listed on Vanderbilt Drive in mid-July, and was told by the current resident that she had lived there for six months and didn’t know Centrella. Two nights later Centrella left the Chevy in the Hertz lot with the keys in the ignition, after the business had closed.
Police arrested Centrella on Wednesday after he reported to the police station.

the other side of this news story should be why the CCSO never found this car? Should have been assigned to a detective and resolved in a couple of days?
