FORT MYERS Juan Portes slugged a game-ending grand slam in the ninth inning to lead the Fort Myers Miracle past the Tampa Yankees 4-0 at Hammond Stadium.
Tampa pitcher Philip Bartleski walked the bases loaded and Portes took him deep to left field for his 12th home run of the season.
Miracle closer Anthony Slama (4-1) earned the win by pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Fort Myers starter Matthew Fox allowed four hits and no walks over six innings, while Jose Lugo pitched two hitless innings of relief to keep the game knotted.
The Miracle and Yankees continue their three-game series at 7 tonight at Hammond Stadium. The series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday in the teams’ final regular-season game.
