— Collier County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 23-year-old Copeland woman Thursday night after they say she failed to get medical treatment for her baby after she spilled coffee on they boy and the boy hit his head on a coffee table.

Kathy Lynn Lamphere, 930 Seaboard Village Drive, Apt. E, was charged with neglect of a child without great bodily harm.

Deputies were called to the home by the baby’s grandparents, Lynn and Ervin Stokes, around 5 p.m., according to an arrest report. When they arrived, Lynn Stokes was holding the baby, which had marks on its back and a bump on its head.

The grandparents told deputies that Lamphere lives in an apartment on the back of their property. The boys father, Christopher Stokes, has been in jail for two months, reports said.

Reports said that on Thursday afternoon, Lamphere called a baby sitter to watch the boy as she napped. The baby sitter saw the marks on the baby’s back and the bump on his head and reported them to the child’s grandparents, deputies said.

Collier County EMS responded to the home to transport the boy to the hospital.

As the ambulance prepared to leave, Lamphere arrived. She told deputies that three days earlier the baby was playing on the floor and that she tripped and spilled hot coffee on the boy’s back. Her father told her to put burn medicine on the baby’s back, she said.

Lamphere said that on Thursday the baby was crawling and hit his head on a coffee table, causing the bump on his head.

Lamphere rode in the ambulance with her son, reports said. A doctor confirmed that the baby had second degree burns on his back and a head injury that needed immediate attention.

Boy their going to hang her for not taking better care of her child. I would not want to be in her shoes after the courts get done with her.

She lives in Copeland....far away from every doctor in Naples...or Marco...she's far away from everything living in Copeland.

This is a horrific situation, but Copeland is kind of like Immokalee...without a casino to maybe boost the economy a bit....and half the population, too. There's no doctors to run to quickly there...it is a tiny town that needs a lot of help.

She makes the woman who gave up her kids for beer in Immokalee look good though.

#2,I can't believe you're blaming this lovely village for bad parenting. Copeland is not a third world country. Excellent medical care is in nearby Marco. I'll bet the grandparents would not have hesitated to help her. Bless the babysitter for "getting involved". The mother should be taking multi-parenting classes.

Great job retsvus, I thought the name looked familiar but was too lazy to do a search. That changes everything, 1 mistake can happen but this baby has been through at least 2.

Don't think that would help her charm and good looks techie. She fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Luckily when she woke up on the ground, she still had her crack pipe.

If she needed a baby sitter while she napped....how did she "arrive" as the ambulance was getting ready to leave? Where was she?
At least, with gay marriages, you won't have these awful parents!

ngetavilla...excellent medical care is on Marco Island...which does not have a 24 hour ER...and if you really need help, you'll have to be airlifted to a hospital in Naples...or Ft. Myers, Miami, or St. Pete for critical pediatric patients.

Copeland might be a cute town, but a visiting doctor would not hurt things out there...even once a month would help residents in Everglades City and Copeland.

OH HOW SAD FOR THAT CHILD TO HAVE PARENTS LIKE THIS......PLEASE TAKE THEM AWAY AND GIVE THEM TO A LOVING FAMILY THAT LOOKS OUT FOR THE BABY'S BEST INTEREST. HOORAY FOR THE GRANDPARENTS FOR CALLING IN...NOW YOU LITTLE SELF ABSORBED IDIOT...IS THIS A REALITY CHECK FOR YOU???

Haven't any of you thought maybe the reason she may have not taken her child to a doctor may be because lack of health insurance and money?

#14 Posted by Illiar on July 5, 2008 at 6:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Thank you Illiar...but this woman and her hubby were busted for leaving this baby in their truck on a hot summer day, too.

They do not have the best record here.

What is sad in this case, is the lack of support from these grandparents, too.

Could they have taken this child to a doctor?

No, let's call the police. They'll help our grandchild. WTF?

This is very sad, and hopefully Florida's foster care system will step up to the plate here, as this whole family does not want to take responsibility for this hurt child.

It is an extremely sad situation.

Should we mention here that the grandparents are millionairs and own half of Everglades City's buisnesses! They CAN afford medical insurance/care. As you see in the first arrest, driving an SUV that isn't cheap on gas. Money isn't the issue here, regardless if they live in Copeland or not. These are what you call parents with a drug problem. Thanks to some of Naples' Dr.s.

jusmythoughts...I'm not sure if Naples Docs had anything to do with these young parents problems, but I can assure you these parents needed more emotional support in raising this child.

#17 Posted by Illiar. Then maybe she should've refrained from spreading her legs and getting knocked up. If you can't feed them, care for them, disipline them, educate them, etc. don't breed them.

#18 Posted by Jadip811 on July 6, 2008 at 1:01 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Jadip...they are married...so "getting knocked up," usually refers to a person who is single, and becomes pregnant. I'll check the definition just in case I'm wrong.

So your whole breeding comment is kind of ignorant.

The grandparents...ignorant, too.

There are no doctors or social workers on Copeland. Another fact of ignorance.

These parents had no support. It's obvious in every way.

At least the babysitter had some common sense.

beetlejuice:
Do you know these people? Because nowhere in the article does it state that they are married.

Jadip, geeat point, but never taken, unfortunately.

Ryan Mills, take a proofreading course, all of your articles have mistakes.

"they boy", for one.

Ha! I love it, I spelled "great" wrong.
Sorry, God.

#21 Posted by indigodragonfly on July 6, 2008 at 10:41 a.m. (Suggest removal)

beetlejuice: if you read the story regarding the father's arrest, you will see that the parents were NOT married at the time this child was born. Therefore, she was "knocked up" as indigo indicated.

#22 Posted by beetlejuice. Let me get this straight beetle. You are defending this poor white trash? take a good look at your comments, your actually making excuses and defending them, if that isn't ignorant and sad I don't know what is beetle.
Would you be defending her if said child was deceased today? Or seriously injured? Hmmmm, I didn't think so....

Just calling a spade and spade, my apologies if that offends you, but this PWT probably shouldn't have had children. This child should be removed from Mommy ASAP and placed with a foster home after not one BUT two abuse incidents.

Will you take responsiblity for her actions for incident #3 or #4 or #5, ( provided they have not happened already....)? Any number of which could lead to the death of the child?????
You would be one of the first on the frigging bandwagon screaming for justice if the child was seriously injured or killed, livid at the "system" wondering why the child wasn't yanked from the first or second incident.

They appear to such a wonderful couple, huh? Daddy in jail, Mommy abusing the children. Poster children for CFS.
And last time I check a ring never blocked a hole, if you get my drift. Marriage means nothing nowadays.
