 Winners of the Men’s Summer Interclub event on Friday June 27 at Wyndemere Country Club were the team of Bill Schmitz (Royal Palm), Bill Murphy (Spanish Wells), JJ Basso (Grandezza), and Jim Chicklo (Vasari).

 Jon McLean of Weston shot a two-round total of 137 to earn medalist honors in a U.S. Amateur Public Links qualifier at Shulas Golf Club in Miami Lakes on June 26-27. John Toliuszis of Estero shot 84-76 and did not qualify. In another qualifier at Bloomingdale Golfers Club in Valrico, Jeremy Hubai of Estero shot 74-75 and Brendan Sheehan of Fort Myers shot 79-73. Neither qualified.

 Steve Pinger of Fort Myers fired a 76 at a U.S. Senior Open qualifier June 30 at Gainesville Golf and Country Club. Pinger didn’t qualify for the Senior Open. Lee Booker of Naples did make the cut by earning medalist honors with 69 in a qualifier at Delray Dunes Golf and Country Club in Boynton Beach on June 27. Scores of local players who did not qualify included Ric Nalyd (72) of Fort Myers, Alan Harper (72), Rex Dobyanski (89) and Robert Bernadine (no card), all of Naples; and Nevin Sutcliff (74) and Harry Witkowski (84), both of Lehigh Acres.

 Ernesto Marin of Miami shot 64-74 to earn medalist honors at a U.S. Junior Amateur Championship qualifying round on June 28-29 at Kensington Golf & Country Club in Naples. Matthew Ceravalo of Palm Beach Gardens (70-70) also qualified. Zhong Yang Fu of Bradenton (67-73) and Chase Marinell of Cape Coral (72-70) earned first and second alternate spots, respectively.

Golfers who failed to qualify included South Fort Myers High junior Alex Felice (80-87) and Estero High senior Ryan Clase, who withdrew. Clase shot a 77 in the first round.
