Swim Florida's Amy Modglin of Fort Myers nearly advanced to the semifinals in the women's 200-meter backstroke at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb., on Friday afternoon.
Modglin, 17, tied for 21st in 2:14.34. The finish tied the best for an area swimmer at the meet. Naples' Erika Erndl, another member of Naples-based Swim Florida, was 21st in the 200 freestyle earlier in the week.
Modglin was seeded 27th going in, and finished less than a second from getting in the top 16 to qualify for the semifinals.
Gulf Coast Swim Team's Nicholas Caldwell and Tayler Dubrasky, and Swim Florida's Chris Sullivan will all compete in the men's 1,500-meter freestyle preliminaries on Saturday.
