Four Collier teachers prepare for visit to Turkey
A group of four teachers from Collier County have been selected to take part in a Turkish Study Tour this summer.
On Sunday, the group will depart southwest Florida bound for Turkey. The trip, co-sponsored by the Naples Council of World Affairs and the Turkish Cultural Foundation, will give teachers the opportunity to learn about Turkish music and cuisine, the arts of paper marbling, Ebru, and world-famous tile making at the Iznik Foundation.
A total of 84 educators from 21 U.S. cities have been selected to visit Turkey. Divided into three groups, the teachers will visit a variety of Turkish public and private schools while traveling to the cities of Istanbul, Bursa, Edirne, Ephesus, Sivas, Konya, Cappadocia and Ankara, as well as other cities and sites.
Briefings by non-governmental organizations will focus on Turkish civic initiatives to improve education in Turkey, as well as political, social and economic issues.
The cost of the trip is underwritten by the sponsors.
