TAMPA A Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy is being held for a mental evaluation after authorities say he used a Taser on his wife.
Thirty-eight-year-old Carlos Thomas Tanner is a 10-year veteran of the department. He remained behind bars Tuesday at Orient Road Jail.
Tanner was arrested a day earlier and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor battery. The sheriff's office says Tanner had been drinking when he got into a fight with his wife. Authorities say he took a Taser from his duty belt and used it three or four times on her abdomen, burning her.
He has been placed on administrative leave without pay.

"Authorities say he took a Taser from his duty belt and used it three or four times on her abdomen..."
Maybe it was his way of telling her she needed to lose weight.

He will probably get his own reality show now. Or maybe even a guest appearance with the two Coreys. He can break up their next fight.

She should have grabbed his regular weapon and used it on him.

"Tanner was arrested a day earlier and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon"
I thought Tasers were the 'less than leathal' alternative? How can he be charged with a use of a deadly weapon? Granted if it is misused it could prove to be deadly, but virtually every thing you can think of could be deadly. The only point I am trying to make is why can authorities (not just cops) say "I dunno why" when a person dies after being tasered. But on the other side of the coin this is a non-lethal form of obtaining compliance. Now they are charging this idiot with AADW. Make up your minds.
Wonder if she yelled "Don't taze me bro, err Carlos!"

Great point, H8....that was my first thought also.
Can't have it both ways.

Years ago my oldest son got arrested for asault with a deadly weapon...
They threw wadded up bread(Wonder Bread) at some people.
It all depends on the arresting officer...

If the wife isnt seeking legal representation for a divorce than she needs a mental evaluation too.

#9 - assuming NDN got it right it appears that two separate charges are reported here.
"Tanner was arrested a day earlier and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor battery".
My guess is and it is only a guess that the Aggravated Assault maybe have been one charge [unknown how it was committed] and the misdemeanor battery charge would have been the tasing.
To charge both of those for a tasing does not seem to make sense. Even if he was to punch her in the eye and give her a black and blue mark it would still be misdemeanor battery only.
But I was not there nor did I read the arrest report so I "dunno why" for sure.

I want a Taser. I want to develop my fast draw. I want to wear my Taser everywhere.

Actually factteller, re-read it. The say he remains behind bars for the mental eval and was arrested a day earliar for this one incident. Looks more like an attempt at time traveling journalism than 2 different incidents. But you are right, the charges don't make sense. Must be that grand ol' oxy moron- Gov't intelligence.

AS always NDN don't get the story straight, and get people thinking what the heck "was arrested a day earlier" means
#18 Posted by jagv0565 on July 8, 2008 at 4 p.m. (Suggest removal)
It means he was arrested on Monday and still behind bars on Tuesday....Monday being a day earlier than Tuesday.
The only person who doesn't understand is the usual law enforcement professional apologist.

CutthroatLiberal,
If you're going to accuse someone of being all those terms you described, don't you think you should probably learn to spell them first? (Hint: use a dictionary).

#22 - CutthroatLiberal you lib’s usually condone and commit violent acts so why are you mad at Flacrkr? The majority of those incarcerated in this country are most likely democrats.
And the ones who defend them are almost always democrats. Amazing isn’t it? Cutthroat maybe you are just an exception to the rule.
And speaking of guns most of the ones out there are stolen or shall I say "acquired" [must be politically correct so I don’t hurt any ones feelings in the Obama/Hillary crowd] by lib's to commit more crimes.
Now I will concede there are a few exceptions to the rule [conservatives do commit crimes also] but it’s probably because they had liberal parents.
