There are so many items that do the same things, but one is often more refined and inspired than the other. I was intrigued with some new gadgets that will get the job done faster or better than the reliable one I have been using all these years.
The first thing on my list was OPI’s Nic’s Sticks ($6.99). These handy sticks are actually a paint-and-go nail lacquer. Just gently shake and pump the pen by clicking the button and applying to your nails. You can give yourself a manicure in a car or at your desk without having to worry about spilling. If you like the same old, same old get one of OPI’s regular nail lacquers ($5.95).
Remember when you mother wet her hanky and rubbed the dirt off your face? Well, now you can get MomSpit. It’s a no-rinse cleanser for hands and face ($7 for 2 ounces or $14 for 7 ounces) that doesn’t need soap and water and even smells good. Available in unscented, fig and green tea or lemon and white tea scents. The small size fits into every mom’s handbag or dad’s pocket for those last minute clean-ups.
I adore tea, but my husband doesn’t. I hate to brew a whole pot and have been making my single cup with tea bags. I recently discovered the Teastick ($18), a cylinder for tea leaves, at wishingfish.com. Now I get one cup of brewed tea any time I want. Just put your leaves in the cylinder, slide the cover closed and place in your cup of hot water. Brew tea with different flavored leaves instantly!
I have been using a mezzaluna (a double blade hand chopper) to make chopped salads. It does the trick, but I discovered the Green Toss & Chop Salad Scissors ($19.95) at Williams Sonoma. It makes the job easier and I can chop as I go, instead of making the whole salad at once and then chopping.
Mapquest was my standby for directions and it’s usually efficient, but a global positioning system gives me so many more options. Garwin nuvi 260 W ($349.99) at Best Buy even speaks to me, and I can ask it to send me to a restaurant or gas station. It’s like traveling with the American Automobile Association in your car. I take it when I am walking in a strange city to find stores and other places that I would have overlooked.
So many choices for things that I always took for granted.

You can give yourself a manicure in a car...
Great idea maybe while texting and drinking coffee.
