New thrift store

Goodwill will have a grand opening celebration of its new retail and donation center starting with the ribbon cutting at 8:45 a.m. Friday at 4955 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples.

Give blood, get ice cream

The Community Blood Center will be collecting blood from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Royal Scoop Homemade Ice Cream, 15 Eighth St., Bonita Springs. All donors will receive a pre-packed pint of ice cream. Information: 436-5455

Breakfast workshop

SCORE will sponsor a workshop on “Managing Your Finances in Tough Times,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chrissy’s Wildside Cafe, 5026 Airport-Pulling Road, Naples. Registration is required. $20, includes breakfast. Information: 430-0081.

Protection for kids and pets

The Human Society Naples and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children have partnered to offer free child fingerprinting and DNA kit ID’s and discounted microchips for pets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 26 at 370 Airport Pulling Road N., Naples. The event also features face painting, pet safety information, snacks, a bounce house and a DJ. Information: 643-1555

Volunteers needed

The aquatics games for the Special Olympics of Collier County needs volunteers on July 27 at the Golden Gate Aquatic Facility, 3300 Santa Barbara Blvd., Naples. Information: 775-1991

Achievements and accolades

-- Mark Benfield, son of Ben and Suzie Benfield of Naples, received his Boy Scout Eagle Award on June 22 from his uncle Bill Coen. Benfield is a member of Troop 2 at Morrings Presbyterian Church. His community service project was organizing a team of friends and Scouts to build 10 tables and 20 benches for the art classroom at the Naples YMCA.

-- Thomas Klein of Naples was a Frank Sinatra expert in the Frank Sinatra Trivia Contest sponsored by the United States Postal Service. Klein was recognized at the Cape Coral Central Post Office office on Thursday.

    Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
