Three-time LPGA Tour event winner Terry Jo Myers has joined the teaching staff of the Mike Calbot International Golf Studio and Triad Golf Schools located at Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero.

“Terry’s familiarity with all skill levels of the game will be a valuable advantage for our clients,” said Mike Calbot. “Her experience as a tour player and winner of multiple LPGA events will be a great attraction for our skilled clients who are trying to elevate their game to the next level, and her passion for introducing the game to junior members will be an asset to our younger players.”

Myers, a Fort Myers native, has been actively working with Lee County government to establish a First Tee facility in the area and she has served for three years on the Florida Sports Foundation board of directors, a position she was appointed to by former governor Jeb Bush. “Mike and I share a passion for growing the game of golf and for teaching all skill levels and ages,” said Myers. “Together we’re developing some exciting programs to help junior players improve their skills so they can take advantage of the many educational scholarships available; we will host beginner’s clinics and demonstrations that highlights the fun and social aspects of the game; and we’ll help adult golfers through range and on-course instruction packages.”

Myers played on the LPGA tour for 19 years. She retired a few years ago. During her career she received numerous awards and honors, including the 1998 Ben Hogan Award, the Golf Digest 1997 Comeback Player of the Year Award, the LPGA Heather Farr Award and the Philadelphia Sportswriters Award.

Myers will continue to be the national spokesperson for Interstitial Cystitis, a debilitating bladder condition she suffered from for many years.

A qualifier for the U.S. Amateur Championship will be held July 28 at The Forest Country Club’s Bear Course in Fort Myers. Local golfers entered include: Kevin Reynolds, Daniel Mazziotta, Jason Rowland, Alexander Medinis, David Keepler and Chad Michael, all of Fort Myers; Jack Mancini and Andrew Pressentin, both of Estero; Connor Arendell and Lem Vongpathoum of Cape Coral; C.J. Simpson of Lehigh Acres; and Juan Rodriguez, Les Logsdon, Jaime Zabala, Ken Saksa, Emilio Mariconda, Keaton Phillips, Thomas Massey, Nicholas Davies and Carson Weinand, all of Naples. The championship will be held Aug. 18-24 in Pinehurst, N.C.

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
