Collier deputies arrest two in lawn equipment theft

Collier sheriff’s deputies said Saturday they made two arrests in connection with the theft of trucks and trailers filled with lawn-care equipment.

The theft occurred around 6 a.m. at Landscape Florida, 12745 Livingston Road in North Naples, Collier sheriff’s officials said.

Charged were Euliber Lorentes Cruz, 41, of Miami, and Hector Salazar-Amaro, 37, of Hialeah. Each is charged with three counts of grand theft and one count of burglary and grand theft. Salazar-Amaro is also charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest without violence and driving without a valid license.

A sheriff’s press release says the owner of Landscape Florida noticed early Saturday that a truck had been driven through the business gates and the vehicles were stolen along with the lawn-care equipment.

Alley toll plaza workers were notified and reported the vehicles had just passed through. Deputies caught up with the suspects on the Alley and arrested them.

An early version of this report and a Collier County Sheriff's Office news release identified the company victimized by the thefts as "Landscapes Lawncare." The correct name of the company is Landscape Florida. The Daily News regrets the error.

More of our wonderful neighbors from the East Coast coming over for a brief weekend visit. Perhaps if they raise the tolls on the Alley these morons won't be able to afford to drive across for their crime sprees.

Lawn equipment thefts are rampant right now. These thefts enable people to buy equipment cheap and start up their own businesses. As long as the citizens of Collier County continue to hire unlicensed and uninsured contractors, these types of crimes, against businesses will thrive. Citizens of Collier, please check up on your contractors and make sure that they have fulfilled their requirements in licensing which, includes, proving that they are knowledgeable and experienced and are checking to make sure their employees are working in this country legally. Stop the "Joe" blow and go businesses from thriving in our county!

How about good job CCSO? I mean come on give credit when it is due, they were responsible for returning nearly $100,000 of property back to its owner.
