Naples finishes 4th in race for Sunshine Cup

Naples High finished fourth in Class 4A in the Sunshine Cup all-sports awards, while Community School was ranked second among Class 2A private schools.

The Golden Eagles, who won state championships in football and softball, had 630.5 points, finishing behind Ponte Vedra Beach-Nease (1,061), Jacksonville-Bishop Kenny (864) and Orlando-Bishop Moore (654.5).

Community School had 539 points, finishing behind Tallahassee-Maclay (697.5).

Other class winners were Port Orange-Spruce Creek (6A), St. Thomas Aquinas (5A), Gainesville-P.K. Yonge (3A public), Jacksonville-Bolles (3A private), Port St. Joe (2A public), Tallahassee-FAMU (1A public) and Bradenton Prep (1A private).

    Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
