Naples City Council members don’t have to worry about the possibility of being uninsured after retirement.
Council voted 6-1 to allow retiring council members to enroll in the city’s retiree health insurance program. Councilman Gary Price cast the dissenting vote.
Under the city’s current plan, retirees pay 100 percent of annual premiums and the insurance is provided at no cost to the city. Retiring council members, who are under the age of 65, will also be able to participate in a consumer driven health plan beginning in October.
Council members must serve six years before they’re eligible for the benefits.
