Baseball: Neumann's Brown, Affleck first-team Class 2A All-State

St. John Neumann High School senior R.T. Brown and sophomore Will Affleck were named first-team Class 2A All-State by the Florida Sports Writers Association on Monday.

The Celtics advanced to the regional semifinals and won the district tournament title this season.

Brown, who was picked as a designated hitter hit .464 with 26 RBIs, five doubles and one triple. The Berry (Ga.) College signee threw out 13 of 24 runners attempting to steal.

Affleck was a dual threat. On the mound, he was 9-1 with a 1.17 ERA, striking out 65 in 53 innings.

At the plate, he hit .394 with a homer — it won the regional quarterfinal — 13 doubles, one triple, 21 RBI, and 26 runs scored. He struck out five times in 71 at-bats, and was named the Class 2A District Player of the Year.

Community School of Naples junior Torre LoCascio made the second team, and the Seahawks’ Will Ellert received honorable mention.

LoCascio batted .481 with six doubles, two triples, 39 runs scored and 18 RBIs. He added 14 stolen bases.

Ellert hit .462 with 12 doubles, two triples, two homers and 31 RBI. On the mound, he struck out 40 in 47.2 innings with a 3.37 ERA.
