“Rocco, Rocco, Rocco!”
You could almost hear the unspoken chant across Naples Monday as one of our own, Rocco Mediate, battled golf’s best player for the U.S. Open Championship.
But alas, it wasn’t to be.
In this contest of everyman vs. Superman, Superman won.
Still, Mediate represented Naples well. The affability and gregarious nature that make him so popular with fellow tour players and the media came through, endearing him to everyone who watched Monday’s dramatic playoff. So too, did his play, matching the great Tiger Woods shot for shot over more than four hours.
In the end, the putts just didn’t fall for Mediate.
Congratulations to Woods on another dramatic victory.
And to Mediate, we say, “Rocco, Rocco, Rocco!”
