Hookin’ you up: June 18, 2008
When fishing pinfish under a popping cork over grass flats, you’ll notice that they tend to dive down, get stuck in the grass, and get off. They use their pin-like fins to “pin” themselves in the grasses, hence the name. I use a small pair of scissors to trim the pointy tips off the dorsal and anal fins. Then the pinfish can still hide in the grasses, but you should be able to pull it free without yanking the bait off the hook. And be careful when handling them. They can leave nasty puncture wounds in your hands. This method works well and will not kill the bait.
