Anglers often become frustrated when unable to relocate a hot spot offshore. Marker floats can solve this problem. For coastal fishing, an empty half-gallon bleach jug works well as anything you’ll find at a tackle shop. First, tie some fishing line to the grip of the jug. Next, make sure to wrap enough line around the jug to reach the bottom at your fishing spot and allow some extra line beyond that. You can put a large snap on the end of the line, which will to allow you to add a heavy sinker. When you find a hot spot, just toss the jug overboard. As the weight sinks, the jug will spin and the line will unwrap on its own. Simply pick up the jug before you head back to the ramp so you don’t leave litter in the Gulf.
