In the Know: Dunkin’ seeks perfect site on East Trail

Q: Have you heard anything new about a Dunkin’ Donuts coming back to the East Trail?

- Mary Ann Crowley, Naples

A: Dunkin’ Donuts will open more stores in Collier County starting within the next six months, said McCall Bodi, communications manager for Massachusetts-based Dunkin’ Brands Inc.

“Dunkin’ Donuts is looking to open multiple stores in the area that includes Naples, Marco Island and Bonita Springs,” Bodi said.

The Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee for Lee County, David McNulty of Fort Myers, plans to open five or six Dunkin’ Donuts in Collier County.

Chances are good that a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise eventually will find another home on U.S. 41 East, but when that might be is still uncertain, according to Lindsey Schmoyer, a local real estate broker representing McNulty.

“We are strategizing what our growth plan will be, and we are definitely looking for the perfect site on the East Trail,” Schmoyer said.

Dunkin’ Donuts, which already has three locations with Baskin Robbins in North Naples, closed at least five locations last year in Collier, three in East Naples and one each in Naples Park and Marco.

Q: Maybe you can find out what is happening on Rattlesnake Hammock Road. They have been widening the street for over two years and all of a sudden they have pulled most of their equipment out and haven’t worked on it for two weeks. Does the county have a date when this project will be completed?

- Leontine Galante, Naples

A: Collier County’s $23 million roadway construction project was anticipated to be completed this spring, but the work will be done later this summer. The project to widen about two miles of the eastern section of Rattlesnake Hammock from two to six lanes broke ground in January 2006.

“We are hoping to get the project done and lanes opened up in the end of July or early August,” said Transportation Division spokeswoman Maricelle Venegas.

Work to convert open drainage ditches to an underground storm system is done, the sidewalk is in, and crews have been working on paving, Venegas said.

By the way, this construction project on Rattlesnake Hammock Road has its own Web site: www.rattlesnakehammockrd.com/project.html.

According to the FAQ segment on the site, the project’s “funds are being allocated from county gas taxes.” But, it appears that cost does not include landscaping yet:

“After completion of the project, a separate contractor will proceed with a project that will match up with the landscaping on the western section of Rattlesnake Hammock Road (Polly Avenue to U.S. 41). With budget cutbacks currently in process, no funding is allocated at this point for landscape on Rattlesnake Hammock Road in the area currently finishing construction. Each year the Transportation Five Year Work Program is updated so it will be reviewed for possible funding in the next budget cycle (Fiscal Year 2008-09).”

I wish they would put one in the GG Estates area.

The Dunkin Donuts in Bonita is pathetic. I could cite many examples, but my favorite happened late last week when my wife stopped there at 10:30 A.M. and they were completely out of donuts. It is a shame that the parent company will let the same franchisee control such a large area if they are unable to operate them well.

A Dunkin Donuts on the east trail. How perfect for the ccso. They will do a great business, I,m sure they miss the one that was closed down in the Bealls center. Anyone who plans on going there better get there 1st thing in the morning, before the cops have a chance. I'm not being nasty, just very honest! I've seen it too many times in the past.
