How other local professional baseball players are faring (statistics through Monday):
Carmen Cali (Naples High) Minnesota Twins — Cali is 4-0 with a save and a 3.32 ERA in 29 games at Triple-A Rochester. His ERA for the month was under two until he gave up three runs in two innings on Sunday. Overall, in 38 innings, the left-handed reliever has allowed 37 hits, walked 15 and struck out 33.
Andy D’Alessio (Barron Collier High) San Francisco Giants — D’Alessio, the former Clemson star first baseman who was selected in the 19th round of the 2007 draft, is batting .308 with 10 homers and 51 RBI for San Jose in the Class A California League. He is eighth in the league in batting average and 10th in homers. Last year, D’Alessio hit .306 with 14 homers and 51 RBI in the Arizona League and .556 with two homers in four games at Class A Salem-Keizer in the Northwest League.
Jason Kiley (Florida Gulf Coast) New York Yankees — The right-handed reliever is back at Class A Staten Island in the New York-Penn League. Kiley, who was picked in the 25th round of the draft by the Yankees in 2007, is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA in three appearances. In six innings, the right-hander has allowed three hits, no walks and struck out five. Kiley was 4-2 with a 2.86 ERA with Staten Island in 2007.
Jason Louwsma (Florida Gulf Coast) Cincinnati Reds — Louwsma is struggling at Class A Sarasota in the Florida State League. He’s batting just .245 with three homers and 25 RBI, and is hitting .200 in his last 10 games. Louwsma was picked in the 29th round of the draft in 2006.
Luis Pardo (Florida Gulf Coast) Houston Astros — Pardo, who was picked in the ninth round of the 2007 draft, is 0-3 with a 4.05 ERA at Class A Lexington (Ky.). In 13.1 innings, the 6-foot-5 right-hander has allowed 14 hits, walked eight and struck out eight.
Chris Resop (Barron Collier High) Los Angeles Angels — Resop was outrighted to Triple-A Richmond by the Braves on June 6 after being designated for assignment on May 26. He is 2-0 in six games with a 3.52 ERA. In 7.2 innings, the right-handed reliever has allowed seven hits, walked nine and struck out 12.
John Tolisano (Estero High) Toronto Blue Jays — Tolisano, who was selected in the second round of the 2007 draft, was a 2008 Midwest League All-Star. The second baseman went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the game last Tuesday. For the season, he’s batting .279 with 13 doubles, six triples, two homers, 29 RBI and four stolen bases at Class A Lansing (Mich.).
