Estero's Chelsea Franklin failed to qualify for the finals in the women's 400-meter freestyle at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb., on Monday.
Franklin, a 17-year-old Cypress Lake High School student who swims for the Gulf Coast Swim Team, was seeded 67th going into the 11-heat preliminaries. She finished last in her heat and 83rd overall in 4:26.52. The top eight overall advance to the finals.
Bishop Verot's Stephanie Peacock, who also swims for Gulf Coast Swim Team, was 48th overall in 4:18.89. The 15-year-old was seeded 76th.
Naples' Erika Erndl withdrew from the 100-meter breaststroke preliminaries this morning. Erndl, 30, was seeded 101st out of 104 swimmers. On Sunday, Erndl moved up 30 spots from her seeded place entering the preliminaries for the 400-meter individual medley, and finished 16th.
Also on Sunday, Swim Florida's Kyle DeCicco finished 61st in the 100-meter breaststroke qualifying in 1:04.94. He was seeded 79th going in.
In the 100-meter butterfly, Colleen Healy, 22, of Swim Florida was 68th in 1:01.57. She was seeded 115th going in. Maida Turnadzic, also of Swim Florida, was 122nd in the women's 100-meter butterfly qualifying in 1:02.93. Turnadzic, 18, was seeded 74th.
Tuesday, Erndl is scheduled to compete in the 200 freestyle preliminary, and the semifinal if she qualifies, as well as the 200 individual medley preliminary and semifinal. Peacock is competing in both of those events as well. So is Amy Modglin, who is with Swim Florida.
