A 42-year-old woman faces felony charges of selling fake designer goods after deputies uncovered counterfeit purses, shoes, jewelry and accessories from a North Naples store bearing her name after a month of investigation, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

Dana Lisi Klein, 42, 87 East Ave., North Naples, was arrested Wednesday and charged with selling forged goods over $1,000.

Arrest reports say deputies executed a search warrant at the Dana Klein store, 3090 U.S. 41 N., on May 24, 2007, and uncovered fake handbags, watches, sunglasses and other merchandise bearing labels from 21 trademark designers such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Burberry, Chanel, and Prada with an estimated value of $526,600.

Reports say an undercover deputy went to the store in April 2007 after receiving information that the store was selling fakes. The store appeared cluttered, unlike other retailers that sell merchandise of such caliber, reports said.

Jewelry, shoes and sunglasses were displayed on card tables covered in black cloth, reports said. Cartier watches were displayed on a plastic rack, along with Tiffany, Gucci, Chanel and Louis Vuitton necklaces and bracelets, reports said.

The undercover deputy selected a black Louis Vuitton purse priced at $75; the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for that purse ranges from $600 to $3,750, reports said.

The undercover deputy proceeded to the check-out area, which consisted of a card table with a makeup bag containing a large amount of money inside and a small credit card terminal, reports said.

When the undercover deputy asked for a receipt, a store employee said none would be given because the deputy paid cash, reports said. The employee also told the deputy that an exchange would still be possible even without a receipt, reports said.

The employee also told the undercover deputy that all of the items in the store were “imported internationally and were Grade A quality,” reports said.

Further investigation by CCSO revealed the purse purchased by the undercover deputy was counterfeit and not a genuine Louis Vuitton.

Why the wait for charges to be filed? She had almost a year to continue selling fakes.

ANYONE WOULD HAVE TO KNOW THEY ARE KNOCKOFFS FOR THOSE PRICES. GRADE A QUALITY YES FROM CHINA PERHAPS. LOUIE , GUCCI, ETC ARE NOT MADE IN CHINA

I purchased from one of her customer's parties--the customer got some fun stuff for throwing a party just like a Tupperware Party, only the merchandise was much, much more fun!! I purchased a couple of Prada bags, cool Chanel sunglasses and a piece of jewelry. Of course I knew these were knock-offs!! People who thought they were getting the "real" goods--feel sorry for them--not their fault they've dirt for brains.

Why would people choose to dwell on this? There are so many more important things to consider, anyhow. Her motives, for instance. She may not be at fault. I would say that at most, people need to know that making fake merchandise is wrong, but once she is corrected, she should not suffer for making money off of those big boss companies that pull in millions on a daily basis. I believe that correction might be needed, but other people need to consider her not as a criminal, but as a person who made a mistake. We all do just that, after all.

There are knock offs everywhere you look. The question in my mind is how this woman applied for her occupational license?

I'm going to sell knock-offs....is that okay Collier County? Oh yeah, and I'm going to say they are real, too. Here's my fee, thanks for the allowing me to operate in Collier County.

So Mr. police man, that purse you're holding looks great on you. It goes well with your badge and your shoes for that matter. Even though he was an undercover agent, the image of the purse shopping brings a laugh.

Did CCSO have to make a purchase to actually bust her?
This is too funny.

beetlejuice..
The article never states that the police officer was male...you're assuming so...hmmmmmmmmm

Who really cares? people know what they're getting, and it's not like the real company is hurting for money. Maybe they shouldn't be so ridicuously priced in the first place!!

#10 Posted by camarogrll79 on May 8, 2008 at 1:48 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Why is this a crime? Why are the police doing work for these manufacturers? Let them file civil suits to recover damages against merchants that sell knockoffs, or get a court injunction. And let the taxpayers pay for real crime prevention.

honestly, who cares? Most of the crap will probably end up in the bottom of the closet collecting dust bunnies anyways! People are so materialistic!!

Just like the US demands that police in other countries (Singapore, Japan and China come to mind) zealously prosecute knock-off sellers/manufacturers of counterfeit movies/software/etc., so too shall it be here.

It's only right.

Who on earth thinks that ANYTHING in Naples is real?

Fake lips, fake money, to most importantly fake boobs, this whole town is fake.

#14 Posted by RockfordGrad on May 8, 2008 at 4:03 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Bear with me on this one.
It says it's a felony to sell a fake for over $1000.00. But the article states that the undercover deputy paid $75.00 for the purse.
Where's the felony??
Don't they have to round up enough customers to bring the total sales over $1000.00
They are sooooooo quick to slap "felony" on every violation around here.

P.S. I agree with post #12
;-)

I never understood the harm either but recently I heard that alquaida funds some of their operations through the sale of fake merchandise in the US.

She wasn't trying to pass off the items as real. Those who went knew what they were buying. There was no big store with a flashing open sign out front. Business was done by word of mouth or friends that brought friends. The store was a small office space that many never knew was there. You would be surprised how many "important" Naples elites shopped with her. I loved it ;)

NB30 - if it was your product that you had labored for years to create and spent millions in advertising along with more millions in patent attorneys, you'd be p.o.'ed if some jerk from China (or wherever) was mass producing products and cashing in on your valuable name w/o compensation or thoughts of quality.

You don't have to like it, just agree. I've bought a watch or two in my time that I clearly knew wasn't legit but I still understood this concept.

Rockford....if you are from IL, too, then you are on the wrong news.....you need to look at the new Super and see how FAKE HE IS, too. And his dixie chicks...and the hefty salaries they have.

While we're at it, the new Rockford princies to be who are entering this school system next year, are FAKERS, too.

Working for a faker Super from IL. who makes me ill thinking about how much he is destroying schools here.

Ditto the comment from CHLOE.

And the faker purse seller should be busted.

#24 Posted by beetlejuice on May 8, 2008 at 10:04 p.m. (Suggest removal)

catztogo: "let the buyer beware...I just don't understand why this is a crime.", Ok..so for the sake of argument let's say you buy a certain brand of dog food and instead of getting what makes your pup happy and healthy you get poisoned...OH wait, that happened...

Better illustration, you put tires on your hot rod/rice rocket or plain ride and they are just the brand you know you want, but nope, the tread separates and you find yourself in a ditch.

Hyperbole? Yes, no one probably died from a fake purse, but misrepresenting a name brand by selling a fake is wrong too. If you really don't see any harm, then, I am sorry for your lack of understanding of the law. Criminals have long used counterfeit items to fund their illegal lifestyle and organization. Hint, when they sell fake goods they usually are cheating at taxes and YOU are making up for this.

Like crooks? Good, you will also be funding others besides the traditional "mafia"...terrorists also enjoy the profits from ill gotten and counterfeit schemes.

If you don't understand that, you are pretty hopeless.

Yes, buyer beware!! I was VERY shocked to hear that In certain parts of Europe ( where the originals are made ), you will be ARRESTED if you are caught carrying a knock off purse etc.. ! It actually happened to a customers freind, who had a knock off purse!! She actually got arrested!! UNREAL!!! Of course, most people know they are buying knock offs, although, I would not be dumb enough to buy a knock off purse for $75.00! Knock offs are DIRT CHEAP!! You can buy them off the internet for next to nothing!! DUH!! Just type in Designer Fakes, a million sites will pop up! Trust me, just don't go to Europe w/ them, unless you want to extend your vacation at a very high price! In fact, w/ the high price you will pay, you may as well buy the REAL thing!!!

"Yes, no one probably died from a fake purse, but misrepresenting a name brand by selling a fake is wrong too."

Well actually....people died on 9/11...see my post #19

#2 Posted by legal_right on May 8, 2008 at 10:59 a.m. "Wonder if her husaband over at the "international" diamond exchange is selling fake diamonds..........."

That's a seriously unfair thing to say.He hasn't been accused of any involvement in this. This also is unfair to the employees of the Exchange effected by this.

Dana Klein's customers knew they were buying knock offs.
Besides I would guess the only ones passing the knock offs as genuine.....were the customers!

I don't condone selling or buying knock offs but don't cast dispersions on those, not involved.

Those who buy are just as guilty as those who sell...no demand,no market...
Just like drugs, those who sell and those who use,guilty...

#30 Posted by countrygirl on May 9, 2008 at 11:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Why are the local police even involved?

Isn't this a state or federal matter?

#31 Posted by RockfordGrad on May 10, 2008 at 11:45 a.m. (Suggest removal)

There are no victims here. This is insane. Collier County needs to fight crimes that hurt people. Everyone that ever bought a purse did it willingly and knew it was fake when they bought it. Get over it!

#32 Posted by missdaisy on May 10, 2008 at 1:45 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Please, seriously. . . someone explain how this is a crime.

Maybe it is the NDN not writing a clear story but it states that she said it was Grade A quality. Nowhere does it say she stated the item was genuine LV, Gucci, etc.

What about the place at the mall? They also sell knock offs. Some are very close while others change the print a tiny bit to resemble the real thing. Shouldn't those stores be shut down?
And the home parties?? Are they also illegal?

Maybe there is more to this story that the NDN left out.
Someone explain without all the opinions.
