Naples Police remained on the scene of a construction spill on the Gordon River Bridge at 10 a.m. and delays on U.S. 41 westbound continued. The spill caused near gridlock on westbound U.S. 41 East at the busy drive time of the morning, sending motorists onto Davis Boulevard and other venues to get away from the backed-up traffic.

Naples Police reported officers still on the scene of the spill at 10 a.m.

Earlier, drivers reported traffic backed up to Bayshore Drive on U.S. 41 headed to Naples and to Shadowlawn Drive on Davis Boulevard, also headed to Naples. Other traffic backups were noted on Davis Boulevard as drivers attempted to escape the clogged highway.

Police officials said gravel and concrete spilled from a construction vehicle on the bridge in the westbound lanes. Traffic was backed up on the busy highway at the peak of the morning driving hour.

I was one of the unlucky ones stuck in the traffic this morning. I was coming from davis and headed to 5th ave. I tried going down a back road, then east trail, then palm street to sandpiper. in the end, i was a few cars behind of where i started.

I've thought of this before, but if that bridge is ever our, we're in trouble!

I was in that mess too, I ended up turning around-going back to Airport Pulling then to Golden Gate Parkway to 41 then south on 41 to 5th Avenue. It was inconvenient but better than just sitting there waiting! Things happen, at least it wasn't an accident and people weren't hurt.

Traffic was backed up to Everglades City at one point.
It was a real mess.
