A San Carlos Park man was arrested Monday after authorities say he shot a lawn-care worker in the back with a pellet gun.

Johnathan Michael Anderson, 19, of 9335 Mooring Circle, now faces a misdemeanor charge of battery.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was working at 20720 Groveline Court in Estero when Anderson shot him in the back, opening a wound that immediately began to swell.

Reports show several people – mostly juveniles – have been giving the lawn-care workers trouble for an extended period of time, including throwing baseballs, tennis balls and bottles at them.

Anderson was transported to Lee County jail for booking.

Wouldn't it be nice if they made the punishment fit the crime? They ought to make this loser do lawn maintenance for a month and invite all his friends over.

Maybe border patrol is looking for a few good men.

#2 Posted by swampbuggy on May 13, 2008 at 12:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Why the charge of misdemeanor battery? This is aggravated battery, a felony.

#3 Posted by 676 on May 13, 2008 at 12:47 p.m. (Suggest removal)

It sure is aggravated battery. WHAT A LOSER.

Scorpionsting WTF English please

#7 Posted by captred7 on May 13, 2008 at 1:10 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Just a wild guess but I'm pretty sure you have to be mentally stable to be a border patrol officer. I don't think they'd take just any kook off the streets or blog boards.

#8 Posted by SDOS on May 13, 2008 at 1:19 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I was going to say shoot this "man" with a pellet gun just to show him what it feels like.

Instead show him what it feels like to be sharing a cell with Bubba, Tyrone or Juan and have them make him their 'girlfriend' for a couple of long nights.

#9 Posted by RockfordGrad on May 13, 2008 at 1:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Good advice scorpionsting
i am guessing that you wanted to anger people by putting it in spanish though

#10 Posted by NeezDutz on May 13, 2008 at 1:46 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Deport Mr. Anderson back to Mexico!

#11 Posted by urknotsmart on May 13, 2008 at 2:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Not at all NeezDutz, just wanted to make sure that the intended party understood my message about him being able to do something after being victimized.

Actually I would categorize this as a hate crime not as aggravated battery which I had thought earlier. The victim needs a lawyer to guide him through and to make sure that the perpetrator gets the stiffest penalty allowed by law.

#12 Posted by Scorpionsting on May 13, 2008 at 3:02 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I agree with you Scorpionsting, both as to the attorney and the hate crime. It is sad that we have come to this, but all the hate against Hispanics will continue to lead us to crimes like this one.

#13 Posted by sassy2 on May 13, 2008 at 3:10 p.m. (Suggest removal)

If he is working in this state he should be able to converse in English (it is part of our state Constitution, after all), so your effort, while well meaning, merely serves to exacerbate some individuals unwillingness to assimilate. By facilitating them, you are contributing to the problem.

#14 Posted by asroka3 on May 13, 2008 at 3:12 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Its not lawn service worker season...
Seriously, if this moron shot a hawk, what would the charge or penalty be?
Is it more than shooting a hard-working individual??

#15 Posted by eltuna on May 13, 2008 at 3:21 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Asroka3,

While I agree with your thought in theory, it hardly seems to work in practice. If the man spoke English he'd be higher up on the success ladder and wouldn't have to be cutting someone's lawn while being pelted with rocks and pellets by punks like the one in this story. Most likely he'd be in some office shuffling papers all day or be a crew leader sitting in an air conditioned truck cabin or construction trailer barking orders to the sweat soaked grunts who don't speak Ingles. Unfortunately it is his lack of speaking English that put him in harms way.

#16 Posted by Scorpionsting on May 13, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Scorpionsting, do you think captred7 would be angry if those of us that knew spanish started posting in Spanish. Que piencas de eso? But really good advice.

#17 Posted by MIAbrat on May 13, 2008 at 3:53 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Scorpion,
You're 100% correct, with all of your posts. I would have to guess, though, that unfortunately there's a chance that the victim's legal status might be in question; therefore, the attorney advice might not be applicable.

Just a side note-- a 19-year-old is definitely an adult. When I read the headline that said "teen", I'm picture a bratty 13-year-old.

Obviously this kid never had anyone give him a real XXX-whipping, which is what he needs.

#18 Posted by lizzyb on May 13, 2008 at 5:05 p.m. (Suggest removal)

i guess that everyone is better at reading what the story Says, than me,,,but, ummm where does it Say that the victim,, Is Hispanic,or any other race?,,, unless everyone Thinks that Only hispanics Do lawn care?,, i know alot that are actually White, Black, Islanders,,, and yep Even hispanics Maybe from mexico, maybe not,,,,

#19 Posted by Bullbat on May 13, 2008 at 5:17 p.m. (Suggest removal)

these are repeated hate crimes assaults and aggravated battery and maybe we need a chain gang of these clowns mowing county lawns

SCORPIONSTING,
I AM BI-LINGUAL TOO, EVEN TRI-LINGUAL. I THINK IT IS RUDE AND DISHONEST TO POST YOUR COMMENTS IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE WHERE MOST READERS ARE PRIMARILY ENGLISH-SPEAKING TO MY BELIEF. I WISH I COULD SEE YOU POSTING YOUR COMMENTS IN ENGLISH IN THE FUTURE. I ALSO WISH TO SEE NAPLES DAILY NEWS BARS READERS FROM POSTING ANY COMMENTS IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE. YOUR FELLOW READERS NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE HECK YOU SAY IN YOUR COMMENTS.
THANK YOU MR/MRS. SCORPIONSTING

#3 Posted by 676 , Agreed. A pellet gun is still a weapon. It still shoots a .177 projectile at750-800 feet per second. BB's and pellets are small but can still do damage.
Hopefully a judge takes his malicious intent into consideration...

#22 Posted by Jadip811 on May 13, 2008 at 5:38 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Why does everyone think the victim is Hispanic? Just because the shooter is white?

#23 Posted by sailnjed on May 13, 2008 at 5:48 p.m. (Suggest removal)

100% Bullbat...
Where in the article was there a mention of his race or ethnicity? This is not a hate crime. I was letting the ignorant bloggers continue with their own prejudice statements.
Should I write this in Spanish?

#24 Posted by eltuna on May 13, 2008 at 5:59 p.m. (Suggest removal)

its highly unlikely that the victim is white and we all know it,and most probably Latino, that is why scorpionsting wrote that post in Spanish 'cause was intended solely for the victim assuming hi is Latino.
Now for paulmoral,I'm assimung that you have education and you should not write all in upper cases, and for banning(that is what you meant?)foreigner lenguages, let me remind you that this is USA and we have something called free speech, let the banning for one of those countries where the freedom is limited.

#25 Posted by jagv0565 on May 13, 2008 at 6:23 p.m. (Suggest removal)

C'on one thing is for sure, the victim is not white, and we know it,they were given this workers trouble for a long period of time, they would do that to a white workers???they abuse the people that they know is not going to fight back may be for fear of deportation, and this abusers know that.

Question... if what some of you have indicated or assumed that the victim can not speak enlish, then why would he come on to this site to read comments? Just a thought.

#28 Posted by Faint_Hearted on May 13, 2008 at 7:12 p.m. (Suggest removal)

How can they prosecute this kid without the lawn service worker coming forward to testify against him? I don't know many non-illegal lawn service workers (non managerial) so if he comes forward shouldn't he be deported?

#29 Posted by personalj on May 13, 2008 at 8:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Okay, I do not think there is anything wrong with scorpion writing in Spanish and I'm not saying this because I can understand him but because if someone posted something in Creole for example and I really wanted to know what that person was saying I'd simply Copy and Paste it onto freetranslation.com and jagv I am 100% on your side. This is suppose to be the country of freedom, now why wouldnt we be aloud to speak in whatever language we want to? It's a free country am I right...? And for the discussion of the man's heritage lets stop being so blasted prejudice for once and realize that WHITE MAN do lawn service as well! If I'm not mistaken an American actually cuts my lawn and I'm Hispanic. This Criminal needs to be put in jail for a very long time.

#30 Posted by laurii0117 on May 13, 2008 at 8:32 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I shot a kid with a pellet gun. I got shot myself plenty of times. That's how us Golden Gate redneck kids played war. Give the mexican I mean lawn-care worker a pellet gun and lets all have some fun.

#31 Posted by GGunderwater on May 13, 2008 at 9:04 p.m. (Suggest removal)

GGunderwater stick your head back under the water. When you come up for air, your words are spoken like you have canal water in your mouth anyway.

This is a hate crime, and this 19 year old will be punished for his actions. When his trial rolls along, all of the youth who were in on this crime, will be watching carefully. They might be next in line.

Zero tolerence will prevent this from happening again.

You can go back underwater now GG.

#37 Posted by jagerfrogger on May 14, 2008 at 1 p.m. (Suggest removal)

scorpionsting, you made my point. "Gibberish" as you put it is a language that is not understood by another person. To a person who only understands and speaks one language, the language of another is simply that. Thank you again. While the words written by myself are easily understood by others who know this language it can hardly be accurately described as gibberish. Simply put, the words mean it is not in the best of taste to speak words which cannot be understood by all who are reading them in a common forum. If everyone on this blog agrees, perhaps we should all reply in languages of different cultures and countries. Now that would be fun!

#38 Posted by ravenhawk on May 14, 2008 at 6:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

ravenhawk skriver: Om alla människor på denna blogg håller, kanske borde vi alla svar på språk för olika kulturer och länder. Nu skulle det vara kul!

Visst skulle. Jag vill ta detta Shooter på en fisketur i ryggen vatten. Too bad han bor i Lee County.

Furthermore: LeavingNaplesAndLovingIt, take this loser with you. Oh you are leaving Naples and not Lee County. Sorry. Guess you mean the general area, huh?

Blue tongue the whole German thing is kind of strange....what's your point? I'm sure you have one.
Not that I don't think the way you write German is cool....but I'm one of those silly Americans who can speak a little, but can't read it without some German beers to go along with it.

Whats a nu skull det vara kul? Because that sounds really tough...whatever it is. Are you calling him a numbskull in German?

The pellet gun-loving nineteen year old is a numbskull and he will be charged as an adult.

It will be fun to see him be accountable for his actions in court!
