Jobless rates declined in Collier, Lee in April
Jobless rates in Collier and Lee counties fell slightly in April.
In Collier, the unemployment rate was 4.9 percent. That was down from 5.1 percent in March, but up from 3.1 percent a year ago.
In Lee, the April rate was 6.4 percent. That compared to 6.6 percent in March and 3.7 percent a year ago.
Statewide, the jobless rate was 4.9 percent in April. There were 456,000 Florida residents without jobs out of a labor force of 9,228,000.
Florida’s April and March jobless rates are the highest since February 2004, which also was 4.9 percent.
The national unemployment rate stands at 5 percent.
In April, job growth continued to be negative in Florida. That’s mostly blamed on a slowdown in construction that has come with a real estate slump.
In Collier, the labor force was at 150,772 in April. In Lee, it was 283,285.
