In the Know: Will Wynn’s open store in N. Naples?

Q: I live in North Naples and enjoy shopping at Wynn’s. But it is so far south. Any chance of Wynn’s going in the Wild Oats store when it is vacated?

Marilyn Moser, North Naples

A: Tim Wynn, the owner of Wynn’s Market, 141 Ninth St. N., said he is asked a similar question two or three times a week, but only a slim chance exists that he’ll open another store now.

“Right now, we have no plans to go into North Naples,” he said. “But never say never. Let’s put it that way.”

Wynn recently considered opening a store in the Collection at Vanderbilt, the new shopping center on the northwest corner of Airport-Pulling and Vanderbilt Beach roads in North Naples, but the price wasn’t right.

Instead, Ada’s Natural Foods Supermarket is projected to open in September at that location, originally planned to be Fresh Market.

Meanwhile, the Sembler Co., owner of the Promenade at Naples Centre on the southwest corner of Airport-Pulling and Naples Boulevard, still needs a tenant to fill the large space that Wild Oats will vacate in late summer or early fall. Whole Foods, which bought Wild Oats, is opening a new store in the Mercato at Vanderbilt Beach Road and U.S. 41 North, and closing Wild Oats.

The Sembler Co. is working with Whole Foods to find a new tenant for the Wild Oats location.

“We are in discussions with several potential replacement tenants, but, of course, we can’t talk about anything in particular until a deal is complete,” said spokeswoman Lisa Brock of Brock Communications Inc., representing Sembler.

Q: For all the years we’ve had Comcast Cable, it used to be when we shut down the unit and turned it on later, it came back to the last channel we were watching. One day, I turned on the TV and it went to Channel 8, a station we never watch. Every time after that it goes to Channel 8. It is annoying, and I’m wondering why Comcast is putting its customers through this.

Don Kissack, Bonita Springs

A: You are not the first one to complain about this Comcast change, but many customers haven’t noticed because they always leave their cable boxes on.

“If you turn your TV off and not turn the box off, you won’t notice it,” said Sandy Wilson, manager of community affairs and public relations for Comcast. “When you cycle the digital box off and turn it back on again, it will go to Channel 8. If you only turn your TV off and not the box, it will go back to the last channel viewed.”

This change began in December, when Comcast upgraded its On Demand service. When the company created a Channel 1 portal for its TV shows, movies and music, its cable boxes lost the feature that kept them tuned to whatever channel they were on when customers turned them off.

The boxes now default to Channel 8 — Comcast’s own My TV8 — when turned on.

care less what channel it goes to..with the kind of servie-and price my dish looks better all the time. Comcast internet where I live here in Dothan al a two year could give better service that we have. Otherwise their service STINKS BAD.........Once when I still had comcast I got the service office in Naples not Dothan where I live. Good luck to all the people that still has to put iwith comcast.....

This means that in order to circumvent Comcast's self-promotion, you have to waste electricity by leaving the digital box on. There's no other reason to do that. Furthermore, the remotes provided with the DVRs are designed to turn the TV and DVR off simultaneously (the big red "All On" button), so you really have to go out of your way to turn off just the TV.

And I thought there were no stupid questions...we have a winner! Thanks to Don Kissack of Bonita Springs. A consolation prize goes to Tim Aten, who answered the stupid question.

Okay...judging from the other blogs...I'd say we have alot of whiny lazy people with nothing better to do! Get a life instead of complaining which channel your cablebox goes to when you turn it off! LOSERS.

Comcast's excuse that the feature was lost because they added OnDemand channel 1 is complete fabrication.
In other areas of the country there is a setting in the cable box (same manufacturer)that let's you choose what channel you would like your cable box to default to when you power off. One choice is simply the last channel you were watching before you power off the cable box.
This is just typical of the inferior service they offer

I too hate the new change. I also notice that when I turn the TV on I have to wait about 30 seconds before I can either change the station or switch to the preview station. This started happening when I got my new HD TV and had to change the cable box to the HD box. This delay does not happen on my regular TV with the hold box which is in our bedroom. Any one else having this same issue?
