If you know someone who gives unselfishly of his or her time and always lends a helping hand, now is the time to nominate them for the Collier Citizen’s 2007 Citizen of the Year award.

“It is truly an honor to sponsor this award,” said Citizen Publisher Russell Tuff, “We know this community has a good supply of deserving residents and hope the various groups and public in general will bring those names forward.”

Nominees must live within the Citizen’s northwest readership area, north and east of I-75. Nomination forms will be available at the Estates and Golden Gate branch libraries and on the Citizen Web site at www.colliercitizen.com.

The award will expand upon a 16-year tradition established by the area’s Presidents Council in 1990. The first recipients were Jim Coletta and Eleanor Williams, followed by Max and Louise Hasse, 1991; George Schmaeling, 1992; Bob Mast and Sandy Homeier, 1993; Ed Ferringer, 1994; Wes Bates, 1995; Frank Kollarek, 1996; Barbara Partington, 1997; Geneva Till, 1998; Scott French, 1999; Bill Salmon, 2000; Cheryle Newman and Glenn Wilt, 2001; Dan Marcis, 2002, and Keith Larson, 2003; Neno Spagna, 2004; Linda Hartman, 2005; Bill Arthur, 2006 and Don Peterson, 2007.

Nominees are evaluated on service to community, not the number of signatures on the nomination form. The three top finalists will be honored during the 2008 Citizen of the Year banquet, to be held Friday, Nov. 21, at the Naples Elks Club.

Nomination forms can be e-mailed to news@colliercitizen.com., faxed to 213-6076 or mailed to 53 12th St. N, Naples, FL 34102. The deadline to submit nominees is Oct. 24.

The Presidents Council is made up of presidents or representatives of area fraternal and civic groups. For more information or to add a representative of your organization, call 213-6074.
