Week 5: Estero Football Notebook
ESTERO HIGH FOOTBALL
LAST WEEK’S RECAP
Mariner 43, Estero 0
No doubt the Wildcats are hoping that what happens in Cape Coral, stays in Cape Coral.
Two consecutive trips in as many weeks yielded identical 43-0 losses.
Ida Baker stymied the Wildcats on Sept. 19. It was Mariner’s turn to suffocate Estero last Friday.
The Wildcats trailed 36-0 at halftime on their way to incurring a third straight shutout. The last time an Estero team was held off the scoreboard three times in a row came in the final weeks of 2004.
Estero wide receiver Travis Rhodes has caught at least one pass in three straight games.
Estero 0 0 0 0—0
Mariner 15 21 7 0—43

UP NEXT
Cypress Lake (1-3) at Estero (0-4), 7:30 p.m.
It’s been a long time since Estero has defeated Cypress Lake.
How long?
You have to peel back the pages to 2001 when wide receiver Micah Rucker — who signed on with the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad last week — caught three TDs and Matt Prater — who now kicks for the Denver Broncos — smacked six extra points in a 42-26 Estero victory.
Since then, the Panthers have ruled the series with an iron paw.
Cypress has won the last six meetings, including a 45-0 rout last year. The Panthers have racked up 99 points in the past two meetings.
Even though Cypress doesn’t sport the a winning record, they aren’t far off. Two losses have come by two points each.
Staying close deep into games — which Estero has struggled to do — could be a challenge for the Wildcats considering Cypress has outscored its opponents 42-0 in its past three first quarters.
Running back Savon Seward and quarterback Christian Parsons, both of whom scored TDs in last year’s game, lead the Panthers’ offense. Seward is averaging 80 yards on the ground per game while Parsons has already surpassed the 1,000 yard mark in passing in just four games.
Estero just can’t seem to catch a break, and that includes its tough schedule. Cypress Lake is the only opponent of Estero’s first eight foes that enters week 5 with a losing record. The good news for the Wildcats is that their final two opponents — Immokalee and Golden Gate — are a combined 0-8.

On defense, standouts were Matt Goddard (one interception) and lineman Jose Romero.
