Palin rally moves to larger venue
Biden comes to Naples
Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden, D-Delaware, will be in Naples on Wednesday for a private dinner at developer Jack Antaramian’s house. Democratic Party workers are trying to arrange for Biden to make a public appearance, but are still working out the details, said Steve Hemping, chairman of the Democratic Party of Collier County.
Folks got a taste of Biden a few weeks ago when he appeared in Fort Myers, but now it is time to bring him to Naples, Hemping said.

The hockey mom will hold a rally at the local hockey arena.
Gov. Sarah Palin’s public rally in Southwest Florida on Monday has been moved to a bigger venue after overwhelming public interest.
Republican National party officials negotiated a deal Friday to have Germain Arena, the home of the Florida Everblades, host Sen. John McCain’s running mate. Palin was originally scheduled to speak at Alico Arena on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University, which has a capacity of 4,500 seats. Germain Arena can accommodate 8,500 people.
Doors will open at 11 a.m. on Monday and Palin is expected to speak at 2 p.m. Parking is free and security will be tight for the event.
Over the past two days, thousands of free tickets to see Palin were snatched up from Cape Coral, Fort Myers and Naples. More tickets will be available over the weekend at all of the McCain-Palin campaign sites in Southwest Florida.
Friday morning, the place to be was the Republican headquarters on U.S. 41 North, where tickets to see the Alaskan Governor, came at a premium. Not of price, but time.
Free tickets to Monday’s event had cheerleaders — and the just curious — lined up around the block.
Charlie Sues, a devoted Republican Party worker, said folks had been lined up since 5 or 5:30 a.m.
Around 10 a.m., there were still tickets available, and Jackie Boland was next in line. She’d been waiting half an hour.
“I saw the debate last night. I’m definitely a (Sen. John) McCain supporter. I need to see her. I’m a conservative talk radio fan,” Boland said.
Ellie White said she’s already sold on McCain and Palin. She stood in line to get tickets because “I want to show my support and be there.”
Steve McGraw waited for 30 minutes to get his tickets, but he didn’t mind. The line moved very quickly, he said.
“I’m unable to go, but I want my children to see (Palin, especially) my eldest daughter who is 16,” McGraw said. “I really believe Palin is going to be our next vice president, so I want (my daughter) to meet her.”
Cindy Gillespie is a vociferous supporter of both McCain and Palin.
“I want to see ‘Palin the Barracuda’,” Gillespie said. “That’s what the pin says.”
Noting how well Palin conducted herself in Thursday night’s debate with Democratic Vice Presidential hopeful Sen. Joe Biden, Gillespie said, “She was excellent last night.”
“She is strong. She fights for the middle class,” Gillespie said.
Terry Moore was only in line for 10 or 15 minutes, but eager to see Palin in person.
“She’s a breath of fresh air,” he said. “She’s talking to normal people about normal (issues) instead of talking (political) mumbo-jumbo.”
Bill Warren was in line for five minutes, holding Keegan, 3, who likely wouldn’t be attending Monday night’s event.
“I’m a big McCain supporter,” Warren said. Did Thursday’s debate encourage him to turn out this morning?
Yes, she was great Thursday, Warren said.
“A lot of people who are supporting McCain (found) Palin more impressive than most people thought,” Warren said.
Asked about her perceived inexperienced, Warren said this, “I don’t believe that’s the case. (She) is balanced by McCain.”

I thought they couldn't use Germain Arena because there's ice down for the Everblades.
I wouldn't waste my time on Palin even if she came to my living room.

I'd like to suggest a venue somewhere out in the Everglades. Plenty of space out there and the political reptiles will feel well at home with some of Florida's natural reptiles, although sending Palin and co out there could be construed as animal cruelty should they get eaten by a gator.

Why would she want to come to your living room? That's a waste of time.

sally the ice never leaves the arena, they just cover it, c'mon Palin would know that!

This is a great example of how biased the media is toward Palin. They hate her and tell us how she is disliked by everyone, and then in the real world, people are flocking to come see her.

The only way Joe Biden could fill up Germain Arena is if he promised to come out on stage and set his hair plugs on fire.

When Joe comes to Naples, I'll be there to cheer him on.
Sara Palin is an embarrassment to us all: she isn't very bright, she can't answer a question and she can barely string two words together to make a coherent sentence.
I'll be happy when she is sent packing back to Alaska in November, about which I have no doubt.

Wow beachykeen....Some very ignorant comments. Gov. Palin isn't an embarrassment to us all. You don’t speak for me. I'm proud to have her on the RNC ticket. Obviously you didn't see the debate last night. Or perhaps you did see the debate and you just didn't understand it. You must be oblivious to the history of your own VP to make such hypocritical statements.
I remember the last DNC candidate who presumed she was already the winner….

Palin's performance during the debate was creepy-weird. Her cutesy-folksy routine played well at first, but it soon grew cloying, like whipped cream sprayed on ice cream. It was so over-the-top it hit the gag reflex. And the winking--what was up with that? Does she really expect to be taken seriously on a world stage when she acts like the boss's secretary after a few drinks at the office Christmas party?
To imagine her in the Oval Office causes brain-freeze.

Naples MP: Stop drinking the Kool Aid.
I certainly did watch the debate and cringed whenever she attempted to speak. I cannot imagine her sitting down with world leaders; she isn't smart enough (and the fact that it took her five years to wade through six colleges should have been the first clue). If she is your idea of VP material, then your standards are terribly low.
Zoey: I agree with you 100%.

Re: Post #1 - There's ALWAYS ice down at Germain Arena. It's too expensive to thaw and then to re-flood and re-freeze it every time they have a different event. They just put plywood and rubber mats on the ice, and then set-up whatever event they're going to have on top of that. That's a very common practice for that type of space.

Speaking of creepy-weird. How about Biden's Botoxed forehead???
Also, it looks like Joe is starting to grow out the hair on the back of his head - kind of in an LBJ late in life sort of way. Maybe the plan is to grow out the hair in back and comb it forward so that it meets the plugs in the middle?

Ah men, men, men. You are all so funny!
Why would women be jealous? I think she's cute, but...so what? Why would that make a woman jealous?
And for all these men who think she's that hot: wow, I feel sorry for you. I'd hate to see what you have at home. Cute? Sure. Hot? Yeah, ok, if you're desperate.

I'm very much a hetero male (despite the screen name--a nod to my late, lamented golden retriever), and I too think Palin is a babe. That's a given. That doesn't mean, however, that I want her anywhere near the White House. Especially if she believes, as has been reported (among other things), that people and dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time. Haven't we had enough of that level of idiocy in the Oval Office? It's just embarrassing, and it's time to shut the door on our dark period of national embarrassment. Let's vote for the smart guys for a change.

She's not your typical Political Robot so everyone is ripping her apart. Especially women, some of the remarks I read from women are unreal. Calling her every name in the book, all of which has nothing to do with her accompishments. Women have the chance to make history here and all they do is complain about how she looks how she sounds how shes this, OMG. You wonder why men die early

"Mthalo, that comment is juvenile and dumb."
Actually, it's the absolute truth, so if someone decides to make the comment;
"And for all these men who think she's that hot: wow, I feel sorry for you. I'd hate to see what you have at home."
they should always first consider what others might be thinking about their looks, before passing judgment on someone elses.

Biden told 14 lies during the debate, Sarah told him it would all come out come the morrow, and its all over the news. You people are mesmerized by an automaton rock star, being fed lines and in the pocket of George Soros, be careful what you wish for. You are kneeling at the feet of an Arab/American, his father was 85% Arab, what is it with you, leaning in the other direction so as not to be labled racist?, is that it? How about doing some serious reading, learn about this person you think is the next messiah, whith his round swirley symbol in the background,"shades of 1939" and on the tail of his plane, all US planes have the flag on the tail, not his, if he wins you may be pledging allegence to this and not the flag. Be careful what you wish for.

Amazing and ironic to me that the same democrats who claim to be liberal, free-thinking, and "for all" are really so closed minded, narrow-thinking, and bullies. You need to revisit history, even recent history. Carter - you people voted for him for "change". Change there was - energy crisis, 22% interest rates, massive gas lines, recession, etc. That's "peanuts" compared to what happens if Barrack Bin ThereDoneThat gets in the White House. Heaven help us all.

Hey sowestfla1975, I do live here. Have for a long time. Permanently since 1974, and as a visitor since the early 60s. What does that have to do with anything? I made the comment about the ice at Germain because that's what was used as the original explanation for why the rally was going to take place at Alico Arena and not Germain. None of that has a bit to do with my intelligence, success, integrity or character.
And from my perspective, Republicans have no claim to any of the above. Especially if the last 8 years are used as an example. Can you honestly, with a straight face, claim that George Bush exemplifies intelligence, success, integrity or character?
McCain is no different than Bush, and Sarah Palin is a joke, a total insult to the American people. If you all want to waste an afternoon listening to her fractured syntax, not to mention her lies, and all her "you betcha's" and other cutesy hockey-mom drivel, have at it. I suspect that in a month or so she'll be retreating to Alaska, so you might as well enjoy her one-and-done visit down here.

I used to wonder how Adolph Hitler, a failed artist and miserable man with few personal accomplishments and a flimsy positive record, could become the chancellor of one of the world's most heavily armed and resentful nations.
The history teachers never explained that part, at least to my satisfaction.
Later, after learning more about the ways in which anger can be projected onto innocents and resentments can be channeled into political power, I believed I had a better understanding. Not complete, but better.
Now, thanks to Sarah Palin, I can see the whole picture.
I'm guessing 2012 is going to be interesting, regardless of what happens in November.
And fifty years from now, you'll have a hard time finding anyone who will even admit to knowing who she was.

Sarah Palin BUSTED in a lie during the debate last night.
Yesterday a McCain campaign spokesman came out and corrected Sarh Palin's claim on McCain's postion that he supports bankruptcy courts being allowed to re-adjust interest rates and the principal of a loan to prevent it from being foreclosed on. McCain DOES NOT support it!
Immediately after lying about McCain's position, Sarah Palin chose to change the subject again.
Here's how it went down during the debate.....
Joe Biden:
"We should be allowing bankruptcy courts to be able to re-adjust not just the interest rate you're paying on your mortgage to be able to stay in your home, but be able to adjust the principal that you owe, the principal that you owe."
"That would keep people in their homes, actually help banks by keeping it from going under. But John McCain, as I understand it -- I'm not sure of this, but I believe John McCain and the governor don't support that."
"There are ways to help people now. And there... Ways that we're offering are not being supported by the Bush administration nor do I believe by John McCain and Gov. Palin."
Moderator:
"Governor Palin, is that so?"
Sarah Palin:
"That is not so, but because that's just a quick answer, I want to talk about, again, my record on energy versus your ticket's energy ticket, also."
"I think that this is important to come back to, with that energy policy plan again that was voted for in '05."
"When we talk about energy, we have to consider the need to do all that we can to allow this nation to become energy independent."
Sarah Palin BUSTED in a lie on POLICY!

General McClellan was a Civil War General.
General McKiernan is the top US Commander in Afghanistan.
If you're going to be a name-dropper, get the name right!
Sarah Palin:
Well, first, McClellan did not say definitively the surge principles would not work in Afghanistan. Certainly, accounting for different conditions in that different country and conditions are certainly different. We have NATO allies helping us for one and even the geographic differences are huge but the counterinsurgency principles could work in Afghanistan. McClellan didn't say anything opposite of that. The counterinsurgency strategy going into Afghanistan, clearing, holding, rebuilding, the civil society and the infrastructure can work in Afghanistan. And those leaders who are over there, who have also been advising George Bush on this have not said anything different but that.
Gen. David McKiernan: “Afghanistan is not Iraq. The word I don't use for Afghanistan is 'surge.' ”
ANOTHER Sarah Palin LIE! She's as embarrassing as George Bush is, maybe even more so!

John McCain made made the exact same claim weeks ago and it was debunked. How could the McCain campaign allow Sarah Palin to make the same mistake?
Sarah Palin (during the vice presidential debate):
"And with the surge that has worked we're now down to pre-surge numbers in Iraq."
WRONG! We're NOT at "pre-surge levels" in Iraq! Another blatant Sarah Palin LIE, or another sign of her ignorance on Iraq?

September saw the LARGEST job loss in America in FIVE YEARS! 159,000 jobs were lost in America last month!
This year 765,000 Americans have lost their jobs.
We can blame NAFTA (tax incentives for sending the American worker's jobs overseas), Bush's tax cuts for the mega-wealthy, and the war in Iraq (we're spending $10 billion a month in Iraq), for starters.
REMEMBER, before you blame the current Congress and Senate keep in mind....
For the first six years of Bush's (p)Residency the Congress and Senate had a Republican majority. In the past 19 months the Democrats have had a razor thin majority.
George Bush had utilized his veto powers in his first 6 years of office only one time, on stem cell research. He's utilized his veto powers 11 times in the past 19 months. It's been impossible for the Democrats to over-ride a Bush veto without Republican support.
It requires 2/3 of a majority to over-ride a presidential veto. The Democrats majority is no where near that.
This has made it very difficult (or virtually impossible) for the Democrats to repair in 19 months what it took six years for the Republicans to break.
Our national debt today is $9.5 trillion, when Bush became (p)Resident he had a surplus of billions and a projected surplus of more than a trillion.
China owns $1.8 trillion of our debt. If that doesn't concern you, it should!
When Bush became (p)Resident the US Dollar was worth more than the Euro. Today the Euro is worth more, and the US Dollar is now competing the Mexican Peso!
Haven't the Republicans done enough damage to our economy and standing in the world?

SARAH PALIN! This woman has NO CLASS!
This is the kind of character Sarah Palin is made of:
Palin finds humor with insults about cancer hurled at cancer suvivor.....
Compassionate Conservative Sarah Palin LAUGHS like a sick teeny-bopper as shock jocs make disgusting jokes on a cancer survivor that happens to be a Republican rival of Palin.
And this is the Republican Party's nomination for Vice President of the United States of America. Where's the dignity?
McCain's vetting process was a huge FAILURE!

One of only two Iraq war veterans speaking at the Republican convention did so as he was being dragged out from the convention center. While the Republicans invited only one Iraq war veteran as a guest speaker, the Democrats invited four Iraq war veterans, including one that is a registered Republican.
IRAQ WAR VETERAN PROTESTS McCAIN'S ACCEPTANCE SPEECH
by Ironside
As John McCain got started with his acceptance speech at the Republican convention he was repeatedly interrupted and thrown off guard by shouts of protests from an Iraq war veteran named Adam Kokesh. Adam Kokesh, who is a Ron Paul supporter, shouted, “McCain votes against vets” and “Ask McCain about his voting record.” He was located up in the balcony with a sign that read "YOU CAN'T WIN AN OCCUPATION" on one side and "McCAIN VOTES AGAINST VETS" on the other side. Those in attendance refused letting him be heard by drowning him out with chants of "USA, USA." So I guess it's alright for them to periodically interrupt the speech with bogus patriotic chants, but it's not ok for a man that has fought for his country to be heard.
Astonishingly, this combat veteran was one of only two veterans to speak at the Republican convention, but was only able to do so as he was being dragged out from the convention center by security. While the Democrats invited four Iraq war veterans as guest speakers, one a registered Republican, it appears that the McCain campaign has distanced themselves from the war in Iraq and those brave troops fighting it by inviting only one.
John McCain's voting record on veteran issues has angered many veterans. He has voted against veterans time and time again. He (and George Bush) opposed Jim Webb's 21st Century GI bill and McCain was a 'no show' when the bill came up for a vote in the Senate. Bush threatened to veto the bill if it passed. McCain proposed a watered down version of the bill, arguing that Jim Webb's was so attractive that it would cause too many enlisted personnel to leave the military for the education benefits. The counter argument was that those leaving would be balanced by the attraction of the bill creating more enlistees who would want to take advantage of the benefits it provided. Jim Webb's bill passed overwhelmingly. It passed so overwhelmingly that Bush realized a veto would easily be overturned and therefore he couldn't make good on his threats and signed the bill into law. He then had the gall to come out and thank four Senators by name for the bill, all Republicans, and get this, he included John McCain when thanking them as if he had anything to do with it as a 'no show'. This is rhetoric very disturbing to say the least!

McCain's first major decision on the road to the Whitehouse has been a huge mistake! This is a remarkable sign as to what kind of decisions John McCain will make. This mostly unknown vice presidential selection doesn't even come without controversy and scandal.
Sarah Palin is currently under investigation over the controversial firing of a public safety commissioner.
Many Republican pundits are saying they expect Palin to win the debates over Joe Biden due to "low expectations." That sounds eerily similar like the same way George Bush won them. Republicans are now trying to win debates with “low expectations.” This is ridiculous and irresponsible!
Some Republican women called in to the political talk shows showing concerns that she's willing to go down the road of a vigorous campaign trail and filling the job of vice president with a five month old down-syndrome baby at home.
The women John McCain overlooked that had much higher credentials and paid their dues for the Republican Party:
Kate Hutchison: US Senator from Texas, 1993 - Present - Texas House of Representatives - Texas State Treasurer
Condoleezza Rice: Secretary of State 2005 - Present, National Security Advisor 2001 - 2005
Elizabeth Dole: US Senator from North Carolina, 2003 - Present - U.S. Secretary of Labor - U.S. Secretary of Transportation - President of The American Red Cross
Susan Collins: US Senator from Maine, 1997- Present, other experience; Maine's Deputy Treasurer
Olympia Snowe: US Senator from Maine, 1995 - Present, other experience; Maine House of Representatives, Maine State Senate, United States House of Representatives
Putting a woman on the ticket could have been real good had it been for more reason that to just have a woman on the ticket. It's going to be a tough sell convincing the American People that Sarah Palin is prepared to be President of the United States should something happen to McCain.
I can't believe anybody that claims Obama lacks experience would claim Palin doesn't.
This McCain is one of the blunders that's going to be really great for the Obama campaign.
Palin has been govrnor of a state that's population is less than that of Collier and Lee counties combined, for a whole whopping 19 months! Whoopie!

McCain believes Putin was the "president of Germany."
McCain believes Iraq and Afghanistan share a border with each other. Iran seperates them!
McCain believes Czechoslovakia still exists.
McCain doesn't know the difference between Sunni and Shi'ite in Iran.
McCain claimed we were at "pre-surge levels" in Iraq.
John McCain is clearly a warmonger and that's well documented. His answer to every foreign crisis is military intervention. He wants to stay in Iraq for "100 years" as well as wanting to "bomb, bomb, bomb.... (bomb, bomb, Iran)" and he's already threatening Russia. And if that's not bad enough, he has a despicable habit of making jokes about war. It's one thing to cut up on a comedy show, but it's a different story when his humor is in reference to a war that our troops are currently dying in.
McCain claims foreign policy as his strength, but in reality his gaffes and comments suggest otherwise. The more he talks about foreign policy the more it's exposed as one of his great weaknesses.
At a time when we are at war with terror and occupying Iraq, the disgusting humor he spews is enough to seriously question his foreign policy expertise. War is a very serious matter and shouldn't be taken lightly.
Is this the kind of Commander in Chief our Armed Forces deserve? I dare say not. He's more of a madman than a leader of the free world. This is extremely disturbing to say the least. It's something he must stop doing and stop it now!
Imagine rightwing America's outrage if this was Barack Obama making these statements and gaffes! John McCain has now agreed with re-enacting the draft to fight the many wars he's supporting. How will he finance these wars? The United States already owes China $1.8 trillion for all of our loans from China including for Bush's current wars.

Does anyone think that Antaramanian's invitation to Biden for dinner is a social event? Perhaps he needs more influence for Collier County to purchase the failed Grand Central Station property or does he plan to discuss a refinance and then default on it like everyone else has done? Another thought - they may be attending dinner at Olio to add 2 more people to the 4 that usually show up at night. Isn't that property owned by Mr. Antaramian too?

Trehuger says spelling doesn’t matter.
"As far as the cant spell comment, nanny nanny boo boo to you, grow up!"
Spelling is a little thing, like grammar. But the intelligent and the educated understand that the two attest to the rigor and the discipline of the thoughts they communicate. Adhering to the “little things” advertises the reliability of the big things — critical thinking, logic, intellectual integrity, honesty.
Trehugger scoffs at elitist nonsense like that. He calls a spade a spade, and he doesn’t waste time on the spelling.
Here are some more “little things” he can throw on the bonfire of ignorance he’s stoking as he fights to repeal the Enlightenment.
Science. Logic. Civil Rights. The Rights of Man. The Magna Carta and Habeas Corpus. Free Speech. True debate. The Right to Assemble. The whole Bill of Rights. Heck, make it the whole Constitution. All it does is enable liberal judges to dismantle God’s best hope for man and make the world safe for Muslim jihadists.
Trehugger is a Crusader in a Dodge Charger, figuratively if not literally. He’s helping track down Galileo and put him back in jail, with Darwin, where he belongs for questioning authority. He wants to sever the chains of reality and restore the comforting grip of authoritarian assurance. The battle is joined.
Secular forces of Reason and Consciousness threaten the moneychangers in the temple, the priests in their palaces, the princes who choke down thousands of dollars worth of wine and brag that it is the blood of migrant children they thus restore.
The mobs that lynched Jesus for daring to shine his light on their false piety and challenge their self-satisfied sense of righteousness can’t argue against Barack Obama with their spelling or their grammar or their logic. Their facts are suspect and so are their motives. So they accuse him of being a messiah, of being better than they are, an elitist, exotic and strange. A Muslim or worse.
The land belches up a new Joan of Arc to lead their war. If she falls the mighty will no more grieve for her than the Dauphin did for the girl from Orleans. If she wins, she’ll help advance a world that rivals the worst nightmares of Orwell and Tolkein.
Spelling does too matter.
