Letter of the Day: Connect the dots?
Editor, Daily News:
Anyone notice a trend?
The American people don’t want to pay for a Wall Street bailout — we are getting one anyway.
The people of Florida don’t want to sell Alligator Alley — the deal progresses.
The people of Collier County don’t want school district administrators to ignore public input and make unilateral decisions — they continue to do so.
Aren’t we supposed to have representative government?
Anyone notice a trend here?

Here and there

As an expert ornithologist, I submit the following:
■ My two favorite birds are buzzards and Muscovy ducks. Buzzards keep our streets cleared of road kill and Muscovy ducks produce great amounts of fertilizer.
However, buzzards are in danger of being hit by cars and Muscovies are in danger of being hit by my baseball bat. If I were a buzzard, I’d hang out around the hospital. If I were a Muscovy, I’d stay off my back porch.
■ Collier County officials are still spending thousands of dollars on sprinkler heads on Immokalee Road. They did the same thing on Goodlette-Frank Road. Even with being watered regularly, that thoroughfare has not grown a bit. Car wash owners love it.
■ Re: The dude with the fancy hat getting kicked out of the restaurant on Third Street. With the rent businesses pay there, they should be allowed to kick anyone out.
■ Letter-writers John Riccio and Jane Varner are a little cross-threaded. Tighten them all you can and they still leak.
■ I’m voting for Joe Paterno for Collier County School Board.
■ Two cats own us. Their third birthday is Oct. 15. I’m accepting gifts for them. Cash only.

Not at all like magic
Editor, Daily News:
My 6-year-old grandson overheard the rantings of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi the other day. He looked at me and asked, “Who is she?”
“She,” I responded, “is one of the 537 people who ‘we, the people’ elect to federal positions in Washington.”
“Her words didn’t sound as though they represented ‘we, the people.’ They sounded more like language used to cover up a tremendous blunder!” he continued.
“You are wise beyond your age, grandson! Her tactic was to divert everyone’s attention in a different direction like a magician would do in his act,” I replied.
“You mean our elected officials are all magicians?” he asked excitedly.
“Some of them are. People like Harry Reid, Christopher Dodd, Barney Frank, Charles Schumer, Charles Rangel and a lame-duck president are good examples of individuals who allowed the nations’ money supply to dry up would be a good example of prestidigitation experts!”
If “we, the people” are going to take back this country and change it, we must communicate our opinions constantly to our prestidigitators in Washington!
Hurry, before a rabbit is pulled out of your bank account instead of money!

We all can feel better
Editor, Daily News:
This week, Oct. 5-11, is Mental Illness Awareness Week. So let’s talk about it!
One in four adults — approximately
57.7 million Americans — experience a mental-health disorder in any given year. Mental illness does not discriminate between Republicans and Democrats. It can strike at any time.
Each year, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) leads a public-education campaign during Mental Illness Awareness Week. It’s a different type of campaign, focusing on serious mental illnesses, such as major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and panic/anxiety disorders.
Mental illness affects children. It affects people of color. Two million Americans live with schizophrenia — twice the number of those with HIV/AIDS. Almost 300,000 of our troops returning home will experience depression.
Unfortunately, two-thirds of people with mental illness do not receive treatment. Mental illness is not just about grim headlines or statistics. It’s about individuals and families living in our community. It’s about courage and hope.
Treatment works. Recovery is possible. Learn about it. Talk about it.
For more information, contact NAMI at 434-6726 or visit www.namicollierco.org.

Tom Hmurcik: Your comment says a lot about you. Let me guess-You are really, really right in your political beliefs; You listen to Rush daily and take notes; You are convinced that Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton caused all our problems; You-well, you know who you are and now we do. Nancy Pelosi was 100% right and correct in making the speach she did and it really saddens me that your Republican retard's feelings were hurt by Nancy's speach. The best thing that could happen to this country would be if conservatives would just go into the wilderness for 40 year and not 40 days. Conservative philosophy is a ticket to disaster and the last 8 years are proof positive.

Colorado,
Toms writing style is unique, a technique any six year old would be proud of. When his grandson grows up and learns about the Bush Administration in history class he will finally understand why he has to visit Grampa at that crazy home.

Tom H, My 14 year old grandson said to me: my Dad's business is not doing to well now. My Mom has gone to work again and I don't see much of them anymore. Dad is spending our savings now to pay for my sisters college, health insurance, our home mortage, food and to put gas in our car. The President is begging us to give him more money as his friends need it.
The church called the other day and asked if we could help them more, they need a new roof and thier cars are two years old now.
Dad was always a Republican, he said we made a big mistake eight years ago but promised not to do it again.
Now he's worried in a few years I will be taken away to fight in the Army and told to kill people who have never hurt us, he worries a lot about me now.
We were all so happy eight years ago. What happen grandfather, what happened?

It will only be a short time untill the quirky, lying, VP wantabe Palin makes a connection from this murderer to Obama, don'tga think?

boss, yes , I picked up GS at 109. Can sell it tomorrow at 125+, but will probably hold it (just as Obama's economic adviser is holding it). You are such a zero.

Fish must be the best stock picker of all time. Even when 97% of the stocks in the market are down, he picks a winner. Even with the stock market losing trillions of dollars, Fish's stock portfolio makes money. Of course he always tells us after the fact.
Fish you are dishonest, have no integrity at all and are a lier.

boss, you are an idiot and have proven it time and again.
Guess Buffett didn't buy GS. Guess that wouldn't be a telling sign. Guess you are so union blind you can't see an obvious stock pick. Too bad for you.
What a joker.
BTW - Buffett is one of Obama's economic advisers. Good thing the feds bailed out GS for him. Where did Paulson come from?
Try to pay attention and you won't need to unionize.

skyhook, just come out and say it so those who won't go to the lionk know what you are talking about:
"Federal law does not require the campaigns to identify donors who give less than $200 during the election cycle...
"Surprisingly, the great majority of Obama donors never break the $200 threshold."
In other words, ACORN is at work funneling money from illegal sources.
What? ACORN do something illegal?
#16 Posted by GoneFishin on October 5, 2008 at 10:48 a.m. (Suggest removal)
In New Mexico, ACORN has been hard at work.
The county clerk said she "did not know how many cards in the current stack of questionable registrations were submitted by ACORN, though she said that group this year has done the majority of so-called third-party registrations -- those that aren't turned in by the voters themselves but are submitted by groups organized to enlist new registrants."

In 3 - 4 years, well learn about all these illegal funds.

Fish, You prove by your own posts what a lier you are. You just posted today you bought GS at $109. Guess what Fish, GS hasn't been as low as $109 since Sept 18th, and then it was only for part of that day. Something smells fishy here.
You posted on Sept. 29, 3:55 pm 'I have two screens open ready to buy bank stocks as soon as the deal get's struck [ bailout deal]'. The low for GS was $123 then and never went near $109.
Your post history always PROVES what a lier you are. I did believe you were smarter than that.
#19 Posted by bossman1 on October 5, 2008 at 11:39 a.m. (Suggest removal)
boss, when did you think I bought GS? I bought it near its IPO, then sold it when it was well over 200. Made a ton. Have had my eye on it since its IPO. If you were really paying attention, you would have noticed that I didn't buy anything when the first bill failed.
Thanks for trying, though.

Getting back to ACORN, looks like the dems might actually steal an election. But they won't mind because they still think 2000 was stolen. Kennedy stole the election from Nixon and guess where? Chicago.
Good ol' fashioned Chicago politics coming back on the national scene.

Here come the excuses for the neocon meltdown before it even happens.
No need to steal a few votes in a landslide. OBAMA 63%, old guy 37%.
GF, look outside and witness the devestation the last eight years have delivered. I cannot think of a single success the republicans have delivered. Help me out. What specific accomplishment can the republican administration lay claim to?

Let's see...
ACORN engages in illegal practices AND helped fan the problem of the mortgage crisis (now being called a "foreclosure crisis" by those on the left), but ACORN is OK in the eyes of the left because they are fighting for their man.

Martha McKee - yes, a trend is perceivable but it is long past.
The influence of Lobbyists, money and media over our office holders is profound. We are living the result of it.
It has ignited a heated uprising from disparate groups all being forced to come together like rival street gangs under the banner of populism.
The condition of the masses is so dire it cannot be ignored by the media and spun by the neoncons.
Americans will not let the GOP relegate 95% of the population to living in tar paper shacks.

We should not be distracted by these excrement scavengers and their wailing over dirty laundry that has been aired before and found wanting in merit.
The economy has infarcted and these cretins want us compare missteps like McCain's Keeting association and Obama's brush with radicals instead of which one offers the best chance to revive it.
It demonstrates a lack of confidence in the acceptance of their ideas if you ask me.

Thank God... one more month and this "crap" will be over and one side will weep and gnash its teeth and mourn the loss of common sense and wonder how things could have gone so horribly wrong... and four years from now they will again choose their candidate by "Committee" and wonder how they ended up with another dud.
But look at the bright side... Oliver Stone's "W" will be out while "W" is still in office. I wonder if he'll catch opening night?

Pelosi is an arogant disrepectful crazy woman. I don't think chastising your peers and refusing to accept ANY responsibility yourself is prefessional behavior in any arena. It is just unfortunate our House of Representatives didn't have the guts to veto bailing out the gamblers and con men, all, who created this mess. You invest in the stock market you're gambling. Period. And it WAS the Democratic party who insisted that mortgage brokers provide home loans to anyone and everyone regardless of income, citizenship, or ability to pay. This is not a problem that came about in just the past eight years, but I see how conveniently it has reared its ugly head one month before the election. Someone has an agenda, and obviously they have been quite effective in getting people to swallow their koolaid willingly. Believe what you must, who will you blame when Obama comes to collect in order to pay for HIS proposed trillions in new spending? As far as his "brush" with radicals? Who do you think you are kidding? His brother, Obanga, is an Islamic extremist for crying out loud.

#23 Billy
Good economy, because of appointees he had, even after dot.com plunge, until democrats took the purse strings and kept solutions from a vote. .
War on terrorism, even with statements of Durbin, Kerry, trip to Syria by Nan, encouraging our enemies by Reid announcing he wil fight to deny funding troops if they do not surrender to the forces of terrorism. Even with Kennedy & NYTimes infuriating the terrorists by telling the world about a female soldier and her boyfriend in Abu Ghraib (against request by Pentagon). Let’s not forget Jack Murtha, also announcing to the world that US soldiers are murdering civilians. The Japanese told their soldiers and citizens they would be murdered by the Americans. They said this to get them to fight harder and to the death. Osama is proud, thankful and grateful to Jack and others that have bolstered the terrorists soldiers and increased hate and death of many soldiers.
Democrats authorized the war as Sunshine Pariots but became Treasonous as the polls turned. To Democrats, polls run the country, not leaders. The anger over Bill Clinton's impeachment and 2000 Election showed they will aid in the defeat of our military, just for a political win over President Bush. (Note: State wide recount by NYTimes & Miami Herald showed Bush won, even without the disallowed military votes.)
If democrats had fought the terrorists as hard as they fight President Bush, the war would be over.
Mistakes???
Many, including Rumsfeld AFTER invasion, allowing politics to run the war which got soldiers killed, Brownie (too important a position for the horse show guy. Give him payback Ambassadorship to Iceland or something).Should have been more vocal about the housing problems. Payoffs to 9-11 victims to save airlines, current bailout Etc Etc. Of course, every previous administrations were faultless.
Agreed, the polls do not look good for Amerika Billy. I am not going to be hurt by Barry, in fact will be helped once I retire.
But I keep reading that Tyler statement about democracy.
""""A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship""""
Obama's "somewhere, over the rainbow" will be the begining

The REAL IMPORTANCE of "the Keating 5"
Two Senators - no ethics violations - John McCain (R) & John Glenn (D)
Robert Bennett, Bill Clinton's* attorney and Ethics Committee Attorney during Keating Five during TV interview:
"First, I should tell your listeners I'm a registered Democrat, so I'm not on McCain's side of a lot of issues. But I investigated John McCain for a year and a half, at least, when I was special counsel to the Senate Ethics Committee in the Keating Five. ... And if there is one thing I am absolutely confident of, it is John McCain is an honest man. I recommended to the Senate Ethics Committee that he be cut out of the case, that there was no evidence against him."
Democrat controlled committee release a Republican???? No matter how hard they tried, no violations.
* One Keating Five democrat found guilty lying to FHLMC was Senator Dennis DeConcini (D). This proven "lyer & crook", in 1995, was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FHLMC) FREDDIE MAC by President Clinton. Yes the same Freddie Mac that went down the tubes partially because of "ethics" matters
So you can see what weight Democrats put on unethical individuals. Where was the outrage. Like appointing Brownie to a meaningless position. What harm could it do.

Yes, you're right Bricklin, but John McCain knew them, he talked to them, so by the same standards you use for Obama, he's guilty of hobnobbing with criminals.
Obama was never convicted of anything either, and yet we listen to your Ayers, Rezco, and you name it rantings everyday.
As for the protests against the Vietnam war in the 60's, I was happy someone was speaking out against that unlawful war that we were also lied into. It doesn't seem to bother you all that so many thousands of our soldiers died and were maimed and again for nothing. You'd rather blame the people who fought to save them as some kind of criminals than blame the criminals in government who were responsible for doing that to our country.
You know, you think that every one who isn't lock step in agreement with your neo con leadership is some kind of left wing terrorist.
People who love this country often protest to protect her. Our leaders often do some dispicable things that need redressing and protesting, and often youth is more flamboyant at it than others.
Another thing: We do not have now nor have we had conventional old time conservative Republicanism for a while. What we have now is some monstrosity that has been foisted upon us, has a terrible foreign policy and fiscally has us in debt way beyond anything we've ever seen. How anyone can defend that is beyond me.
BTW, good posts JenniferSaban #6 and Bossman #7.

Twice today you misspelled "lier". It's L-I-A-R.
It's difficult to take anything you say seriously when you have the spelling skills of a second grader. Computers have this wonderful feature called spell check. Try it.

Canuck, isn't that the truth. The Right Wingers and McCain have nothing but a bunch of refuse that doesn't play. Maybe they like to hear themselves garble.
Knital, obviously you don't listen to Barack when he speaks. He's said he loves America, has said it many times, says he's grateful to America for the opportunities he's had, but he doesn't like what this administration is doing to America. He wants to help America recover from being bashed from all sides till we're teetering and hanging on the edge of bankruptcy as we've gotten ourselves deeper in trouble in the Middle East and the world.
Bricklin75, of course I know the answers to the questions I asked ChiDem. I, in fact, was even smart enough to pose these questions. But the trouble with you Right Wingers is you have no questions and no answers. You only dive head long into one rash action after another without thought, but with a lot of stubborn resolve to continue doing what is failing, has been failing and has little chance of making things any better.
One thing is sure, you Right Wingers have shown us you're not fit to lead, and I'll be voting, happily voting for Obama and wiping you all out of office.
