Palin event: Long line awaits free tickets
Even Gov. Sarah Palin's hometown in Alaska was represented in the long line snaking around the Lee County Republican Party headquarters on Thursday morning as McCain-Palin enthusiasts waited for free tickets to the governor's Monday appearance in Fort Myers
Germain Arena

ESTERO Anita Green drives from Fort Lauderdale to Estero every week so her 13-year-old son can attend hockey practice at Germain Arena.
The hockey mom says the long drive is just one reason she connects with Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
“It’s not just the hockey,” Green said Sunday morning. “She is a mother with a big family and a full-time job. She shows a lot of commitment and stands up for what she believes. I think that’s refreshing.”
Green wasn’t the only hockey mom excited to talk about Palin while their sons practiced on Germain’s recreational rink and workers prepared the main arena for Monday’s political rally.
Palin’s visit was announced Wednesday and moved from Florida Gulf Coast University’s Alico Arena to Germain Arena on Friday because of high demand for tickets.
Alico’s capacity is 4,500 seats while Germain can accommodate 8,500 people. Doors will open at 11 a.m. Monday and Palin is scheduled to speak at 2:45 p.m.
“We hockey moms are crazy because we travel the longest distances to see our kids practice,” said Judy Asa of Melbourne. “We understand each other because we understand the time and effort and sacrifice we give our children.”
Asa’s two sons, ages 13 and 14, both play hockey but she said Palin’s candidacy excites her for other reasons as well.
“I would love to see her speak,” said Asa. “She’s a hockey mom so I know what she’s made of, but she also brings leadership, maturity and intelligence. I respect her.”
John Scott was training his 6-month-old dog, a rare French Beauceron, in Germain’s parking lot. Scott would also like to attend the rally but cannot because of work.
“I’m a big fan of hers,” he said. “I like the way she handles herself and I’m glad she’s coming down here. I also like John McCain’s economic policies and hope the Republicans carry Florida.”
Across Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, at Great Clips for Hair in the Shoppes at Grand Oak, beautician Priscilla Pilla said a lot of her clients have been talking about Palin talk since the rally was announced.
“I had a lady yesterday who was very excited and another one that was going, they both had tickets,” said Pilla. “People have been talking about it quite a lot.”
Pilla is undecided about her vote but would attend the rally if she didn’t have to work.
“I’d really like to see her,” she said. “She is one of those politicians who keeps your attention and I’m impressed with her. She held up quite well at the debate.”
At the Timberline store in nearby Gulf Coast Center mall, assistant manager Stephen Royal said customers haven’t mentioned Palin much, but the store’s young staff has been talking about Monday’s event.
Royal, 23, is a FGCU student who is leaning toward the McCain-Palin ticket. He plans on attending the rally.
“I heard Biden is coming to Naples, too,” he said. “It makes you feel a little more involved with them coming. I think people just want to see her in person because the general public usually just sees the 30-second blips on TV.”
At the McCain campaign’s Fort Myers headquarters, tickets were going fast early Sunday afternoon.
The office had already obtained more tickets from the Cape Coral campaign office to meet the strong demand.
“This is all we have left,” said volunteer Shirley Borregaard of Fort Myers, pointing to a stack of tickets about 3 inches high.
“There was a line of about 20 people when I got here an hour ago and we’ve had at least 100 more in here since then.”
At 12:30 p.m., a steady stream of people were still filing in and Borregaard thought the tickets would be gone within a few hours.
Fort Myers resident Lisa Turner took eight tickets. She planned on attending the rally with her mother, a neighbor and five of her nine children.
The kids attending the rally with her are between the ages of 2 and 12, she said.
“I want them to be able to respect our democracy and respect our ability to vote,” said Turner. “I also want them to respect a woman of integrity. I think it comes down to the value system that she stands for.”

Maybe if these fools get lucky, Palin will speak in tongues for them. Or maybe she could teach the FGCU science department why creationism and not evolution should be the real curriculum and why stem cells can't be used in medical research. I'm sure she will want to ban some books from the library.
Perhaps, her husband could teach the political science majors why he wants Alaska to be its own country and not a state of the United States of America.
I'm sure the Engineering Department will be interested in her bridge to no where or at least how she got the road built.
Let's don't forget "family values" - her family planning views and her running mate who was unfaithful to his first wife whom he then divorced for another woman. That woman would be 1st Lady?

What does being "refreshing" have to do with being competent to hold the office of President. I recall the pundits crediting Bush's likability (someone you'd like to have a beer with) as a major reason for his winning in 2000. We all know how that worked out for Joe sixpack with his current economic problems.

It's a shame Don Young couldn't meet her after her appearance. The two of them could have hooked up with Daniel Aronoff and gone and checked out the site of the $10 million earmark of an I-75 interchange nobody but Aronoff and Young seemed to want.
Crony earmarks were her stock in trade in Alaska. Don Young, along with Ted Stevens, was her Main Man when it came to getting the taxpayers in the lower 49 to cough up money for the projects she wanted to build.
Some hockey mom. The rink she left in Wasilla ended up leaving the town millions in debt. Alaska residents got oil-profit checks from the state while the governor poor-mouthed to American taxpayers for the money to build her roads and hospitals and bridges to nowhere.
It's pretty clear why Young slipped the Coconut Road interchange money into the highway funding bill for Abromoff. Wonder what was going on that made him such a beneficial ally to Palin?

Palin is no maverick. Neither is McCain. It's just the same scary "brand" that has brought America to its knees at home and overseas.
Now she's been to the Karl Rove school of slime tactics so expect more sleazeball attacks.
Once upon a time I had respect for John McCain, but not any more.

When you can afford the time and money to travel back and forth from Ft. Lauderdale to Germain Arena for kid's hockey, such matters as the economy, the price of gas, healthcare and the billions spent on an uneeded, unjust war must seem mundane. Years from now their kids can dig through mom and dad's drawers and find the yellowed, fading ticket for the Sarah Palin rally and ask each other "who in the hell was Sarah Palin?"

Forget her policies for a moment. Forget her "refreshing" style for a moment. Do people actually see her as capable of being President of the United States?
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?i...
She's uninformed. She's incoherent at times. She babbles in soundbites.
She couldn't even handle a sit-down with Katie Couric... how on earth can she handle meetings, confrontations, negotiations, or policy sessions with both domestic and foreign leaders? Or maybe she'll just complain about them playing "gotcha" with her during negotiations.

The "Buzz" in Estero between Joe Sixpack and I today was about the traffic problems her visit will cause tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise, we Estero residents wish Ms Caribou would go back to Canada...err, Alaska. She and 'Hayseed Todd' can go back to their village and proclaim that their resident idot has finally come home.

I can see why the above democratic posters hate Palin. They see a great looking, successful and independent mother who is deeply in love with her husband. She's not a victim and hasn't been disenfranchised; therefor she's an unacceptable candidate.
Palin make most Democrats realize what horrible lives they’re leading, and that’s just unforgivable.

I wish you would stop bashing Palin. Why don't you take some time and see who Obama really is. He's the one you should be looking into. He has a history of associating and working with radicals and terrorists. Bill Ayres was not his only questionable friend. He has many. He wants to change America all right, but not the way we all want. Is this someone you want in charge of our country? I care about my family and friends too much to trust someone who shares such twisted views as the company he has kept. I know he denies it, but what do you expect? Do you think he would stand a chance at being elected if he admitted to his associations? Use your heads and open your eyes and ears. It's not propaganda, the man can not be trusted.

Coyote, you need your head examined. Palin is a complete joke. Having a child, if indeed hers, at 44 is irresponsible. I suppose the Downs is some sort of punishment from god? Letting your teen daughter get knocked up is irresponsible. 5 colleges in 6 years to graduate college is irresponsible (and further exemplifies her stupidity). She may be good for Alaska, and they can gladly have her and her messed up family back, but she is the last thing this country needs or will accept. She is nothing but Father Time’s gimmick in an attempt to win the election, and thank god the American people seem smart enough realize this. Look at the polls….game over….the old guy aint gonna win. You can betcha that. Enjoy your gimmick, hockey mom while it lasts.

I'm a baseball fanatic, but I think this analogy holds true.
The Prez and VP should be like a baseball battery of pitcher and catcher. If you follow baseball, you will know that the catcher is usually older and smarter than the young gun on the mound. A good catcher will guide, nurture, and educate the young pitcher. Think Bull Durham, the movie, if you don't follow baseball.
The team of Obama and Biden is going to be a lot better than having McCain on the mound and Palin catching. Palin is very nice and a fine American, but no way can she guide her pitcher. and I don't think McCain would ever listen to his catcher. She is a figurehead. She was nominated to gather votes, not to participate. To think she is one step away from the presidency is mind-boggling. You betcha'
Obama and Biden will be a good team. Ambition and experience. Biden will be more involved in the process than Palin.

Smartypants:
Did you see the story on FoxNews yesterday..."Economy in Crisis."
They were outlining how the mortgage crisis came about.
Obama spearheaded "Acorn" to get Congress to provide more money for low income and poor (bad) credit borrowers through Fannie Mae early in his career. Numerous Republican members of the Senate and Congress voted against the bill, stating it would put Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in crisis and possibly destroy our economy. Senator John McCain, in 2005, warned that if tighter restrictions were not put on Fanny and Freddie we would find ourselves in an economical meltdown. President Clinton signed a mortgage bill pushed by the Democrats and Obama that allowed the "Acorn" and numerous other mortgage sub lending programs through, while he was in office.
Who can best run our economy...and defend our nation?
And if people want to get nasty and criticize some one for their appearance...what is wrong with Mitchell Obama's mouth? Does she have a lower jaw over-bite our what?
McCain 2008!

those of you who sincerely believe in this terrorist link stuff are just really reaching for anything at this point to stem the the tide of support for Barack Obama. If there were ANY credible link to terrorists, Obama would have already been arrested and confined in Guantanamo Bay, with all the others that our domestic wiretapping (that wasn't legal until our dedicated congress made it legal, after the fact) reveals.
palin is a complete ditz who answers questions that NO ONE ASKS HER, and can't answer a SIMPLE question about what magazines she reads or what supreme court cases she might not agree with, aside from Roe v. Wade. You want this woman to be second-in-command of the free world? Are you kidding me?! God-forbid we elect someone who has a brain this year, and can form thoughts that don't end in "you betcha" and "joe six-pack and hockey moms." No offense to hockey moms out there, but that qualification alone does NOT make you leader of the free world material. Neither does being a beauty queen. She won't be much for foreign policy, except to say how sweet it is that they have children of their own, oh my gooooshhhh!
McCain/Palin is a joke. The Republicans couldn't get a competitive candidate, and then he selects Palin, ,who can't even figure out what magazine she reads, even though she reads them ALL, with ALL her free time. Shame on the republicans for resorting to these smear tactics when all they have to do is focus on the fact that they did not approve the Bailout in majority vote.

Yes, the Democrats hate Sarah Palin. The Proof of this is their screaming about the inadequacy of Sarah Palin as a Vice President, while the truth is that she has just as much experience as Senator Obama. But the posting (whining)goes on and on about how she is not qualified.
The Democrats just can't abide that there is such a thing as a conservative woman who is pro-life, pro-gun rights, pro-lower taxes, pro-drilling drilling for oil, etc.....
Democrats hate the fact that a woman with five children who likes guns and low property taxes and is pro-life could become the next Vice President of the United States.

LOL, very nice ravenhawk.
This young lady from Alaska sure has the liberal left wingers in an uproar. They do need to fear her.
I for one, a registered democrat for the first 49 years of my life(actually 31 years of being old enough to vote), registered republican for the first time in my life this year. I didn't do it for McCain/Palin, but to help Huckabee in the primaries, because I really liked him. I will be voting McCain/Palin, because I trust them far more than I do Obama/Biden.
I am not a holyroller, or a wealthy man. I consider myself a moderate from middle America. And the McCain/Palin ticket is far closer to my likeing. And my value system is far closer to theirs than that of the Far Left Obama.

Chalk one more up for the Obama campaign. As a former undecided, I have now decided to back Obama/Biden. Any credibility that I may have given McCain/Palin went out the door when they began employing these disgracful, lowdown and dirty National Enquirer gossip rag tactics. In the face of their low poll numbers, they have lost sight of the relevant issues and have resorted to lowballing and rehashing old issues that have already been cleared up and explained fully by the Obama camp. Do they honestly think that they can win such an important post with that kind of mudslinging. Talk to me about the issues that are truly important, not what church Obama goes to or what brand of undies he wears. Now she's going after Madeline Albright? Can someone please explain what that's all about? This has gone beyond ridiculous and into the realm of a twisted and demented circus act.

Post # 33. Greetings RainMan...:)"This young lady from Alaska sure has the liberal left wingers in an uproar. They do need to fear her" The word here is caution not fear. There is much to be concerned with this Republican combo. McCain has been described more than once and by many as irratic and rightfully so. He has a fits of temper tantrums and quite possibly is suffering from PTSD. A question that comes to mind is,what would be his leadership qualities be if/when he does not take his meds? Perhaps irratic is synnomous with maverick in this case. Palin, on the other hand is a borderline religious extremist who I fear would, if she could, convert us from a democracy to a theocracy in a heartbeat.
In essence, yes, they BOTH worry me.

This is going to be an interesting, and disgusting, finish to this race with McCain and Palin pulling out every slimy sleeze ball tactic from the Rove School of Disinformation in an attempt to win this election.
Since they can't compete on an intellectual, factual and ethical level with Obama in regard to the current issues affecting all of us, they will have to resort to what they know best... CRAP.. in an attempt to smear and distort Obama's campaign for the Presidency.
What I find even more troubling as we witness this desperate, last minute, attempt to take this election is that the McCain/Palin/Rove Campaign actually believes we are going to be stupid enough to accept their BS.
Once this is over, I suggest we promote a new bill/law in congress called the "McCain/Palin Election Fraud Act" that would make it a crime for anyone to run for elective office without demonstrating intellectual integrity and competence to occupy the office.

I have to admit, I do like reading all the comments, liberal leftees, democrats, republicans, and the far right republicans.
Some of you say I should fear the republican ticket. Well, all I do know is this. They are comprised of one holy roller at least. Does she scare me...no, she won't change my views on religon one way or the other. Nor my views on abortion which are, I think it is wrong, but don't believe I have the right to choose for someone else. I do agree with most of the rest of thier values and ideas.
Some here say I should fear the Democratic Party. Well, I don't fear Biden, he hasn't done any real harm in his 30 plus years in the Senate.
Now, that Obama, I do fear him a little. A man that has only been in big polotics about four years. Two years of it campaining. I have seen him lie on national TV. Not just repeating what the talking heads say. I saw where he said he would talk to that Iranian madman without pre conditions, and I have seen him say he never said that either. I won't vote for a man that I know to be a liar. His own running mate, said on national tv during the democratic debates, that Obama wasn't ready to be commander in chief.
So, I will stick with my choice of McCain/Palin. I have not seen either of these two lie on national tv.

I doubt very seriously "if elected" he will be in office for long.
Like I said..."I" was undecided till yesterday...there are alot more out there...still undecided.
And...if it is "over"...why is the Obama camp going to the prisons to register voters?

Well, I have watched all the debates, I have watched all of these guys on tv. Most of the u tube thingys.
I do like the way Obama talks change.
But, I saw the man lie on national tv with my own eyes and ears. I haven't seen McCain or Palin do that. I have seen both party change their views. But, once again, I saw Obama flat out lie on national TV.
I will not vote for a liar, period. And I believe anyone that will, is not someones view I need to take into consideration.
A man is only as good as his word. Obamas word is not any good.
So, I will be voting McCain/Palin. That is just how I feel about the issue.
And I didn't vote for either Bush.

i just heard Palin speaking in clearwater florida on tv. wow am i glad I traded my voting registration from dem to independent.
the dem party has turned into a far left wingnut party.
americans have a bad habit of putting the wrong person in office Bush last election and now Obama possibly.
seen a bumper sticker the other day it said
I'm a republican because everyone can't be on welfare

Hmm...you think they would let me wear a red one, it would have to match the color of my 67 chevy camaro.
I take it your an Obama fan.
I'm sorry I can't vote for him. It has nothing to do with the fact that the sky is or isn't falling.
It all has to do with the fact that I saw and heard the man(Obama) flat out lie on National TV.
I won't vote for a liar. I don't care what party he is from.
Can you tell me why you would vote for him?

You don't think that there isn't some racial Nazi supremist sitting out there?

I think there will be Liestopper.
I'm sorry to say that...but I see some idiot doing just that.
We like to think we have come along way since the civil rights movement...but I believe alot of people have just gotten quieter about their views. There are still people out there that only see black or white.Truly sad too...color doesn't determine a person...character does.
But just like with JFK...Martin Luther King...George Wallace...I see someone doing something totally tragic.
And...I do not have an 'inside scoop"...just thinking logically based on history.

How do you believe in a man that in one TV appearance says he will talk to the Iranian Madman without preconditions, and then a short time later in his short history says he never said he would meet the Iranian Madman without preconditions.
The man is a flat our liar. And yet you believe this other campaign elect me drivel.
Well I guess we will all get what we deserve when we vote this November.

I don't see that as a lie. Maybe he just got some useful information that made him reconsider his position. Why does it have to be a lie? If we want to talk about lies, you just have to watch the post debates on CNN where they debunk the "stretched truths" that BOTH sides utter. Now let's just Maverick up together and agree to disagree.

Just in case any of you didn't know, your tax $$$ are being spent on taking 200 Barron Collier Band Students out of school to Germaine Arena to play for the gathering crowd as I write this. It's supposed to be "an honor" for our Public High School students to play for all the local VIPs of the GOP. No doubt they will be playing a variety of Patriotic tunes, to help set the tone at this completely bi-partisan political rally. I wonder how much money the Republican Nominee for the Vice Presidency will raise during her stay in SW Fla.!

Or how about her ties to the Alaskan Independence Party (to succeed Alaska from the nation) anyone? anyone? Treason? anyone? Oh, and how is our wonderful, ethical Governer doing on that investigation? "Troopergate" anyone? anyone? Just because someone doesn't think Sarah is capable of being VP (and potentially Pres) doesn't mean they hate her. Conservative Republicans seem to have lost track of the ability to oppose someone on the issues rather than for personal reasons. Too many years, perhaps, of dirty tricks, Fox News and Rush Limbaugh?
Fact: Sarah seems like a nice lady, devoted to her family, and has achieved more than she would ever have been thought to be capable of.
Fact: Those qualities don't make her a fit candidate to lead 300 million people.
Fact: She hasn't performed in any debate or interview beyond spouting pre-rehearsed sound bites except when she flubs softball questions like "What do you read?" that show a Bush like lack of intellectual curiosity.

You all love Palin because she gave you an excuse to be a RACIST!!!! Guess what...not this time. Educated people are going to pick the next President this time...OBAMA/BIDEN'08
#85 Posted by lb5361 on October 6, 2008 at 4:11 p.m. (Suggest removal)
How can anyone vote or trust a "ticket" combined of a vice president and president who totally disagree on major issues and voted against each other and now that Biden was appointed vp, he now agrees on Obama's policies? Palin is a breathe of fresh air, straight forward and tells you the way it is. Please read the following:
Well the truth is starting to surface about the corrupt leadership of Fanni Mae, Freddie Mac, and our Bank institutes. Read the following article. It is interesting to find out who has been in charge of these three frauds!!! Democrats!!! And who has his hand in it!!! OBAMA!!! Read on!!!
Lehman Brothers collapse is traced back to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two big mortgage banks that got a federal bailout a few weeks ago.
Freddie and Fannie used huge lobbying budgets and political contributions to keep regulators off their backs.
A group called the Center for Responsive Politics keeps track of which politicians get Fannie and Freddie political contributions. The top three U.S. senators getting big Fannie and Freddie political bucks were Democrats and No. 2 is Sen. Barack Obama.
Now remember, he's only been in the Senate four years, but he still managed to grab the No. 2 spot ahead of John Kerry — decades in the Senate — and Chris Dodd, who is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.
Fannie and Freddie have been creations of the congressional Democrats and the Clinton White House, designed to make mortgages available to more people and, as it turns out, some people who couldn't afford them.
Fannie and Freddie have also been places for big Washington Democrats to go to work in the semi-private sector and pocket millions. The Clinton administration's White House Budget Director Franklin Raines ran Fannie and collected $50 million. Jamie Gorelick — Clinton Justice Department official — worked for Fannie and took home $26 million. Big Democrat Jim Johnson, recently on Obama's VP search committee, has hauled in millions from his Fannie Mae CEO job.
Now remember: Obama's ads and stump speeches attack McCain and Republican policies for the current financial turmoil. It is demonstrably not Republican policy and worse, it appears the man attacking McCain — Sen. Obama — was at the head of the line when the piggies lined up at the Fannie and Freddie trough for campaign bucks.
Sen. Barack Obama: No. 2 on the Fannie/Freddie list of favored politicians after just four short years in the Senate.
If Obama becomes President this Country will be in a heap of sh___ let alone not safe!!!

Palin is a joke. I would easily wager a $100 that should couldn't pass a high school level geography, history or economics test.
