Former Everblades defenseman Chris Lee suffered a scary injury in Monday night’s New York Islanders preseason game against the Florida Panthers in Sunrise.
Lee was driven into the boards with 11:02 left in the third period, hitting his neck and collapsing. He was placed in a neck brace and driven to Broward General Hospital.
The Islanders said Lee never lost consciousness and was still able to move throughout the ordeal. On Tuesday, Lee underwent a series of tests, which all came out negative, and was cleared to fly back to New York.
The 28-year-old defenseman was finishing up a stellar preseason, during which he scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Oct. 3. He is expected to be sent down to the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers later this week.
Lee spent three seasons with the Everblades, where he moved from forward to defense and scored 11 points in 15 playoff games during the Blades 2004-05 run to the Kelly Cup Finals.
