Call me a pest, but I feel compelled to remind you a final time that next Friday, Oct. 17, is a school day -- the makeup day needed because of Tropical Storm Fay. I’m sure you agree, enough said.
If you never had the chance to finish high school and are pursuing your GED, or if you know someone who is working toward his or her GED, I’ve got news of real interest to you. There’s a new television show, called “GED Connection,” that will be helpful to all GED candidates, as well as any interested viewer. This is the final week of the current series of shows, but it’s likely we’ll run the 39-topic series again on our TV channel, The Education Channel, cable 20.
The “GED Connection” airs at 6:30, 11 and 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Topics this week include fractions, ratio proportion and percent, measurement, formulas, geometry, data analysis, statistics and probability, introduction to algebra and special topics in algebra and geometry. Wow! Some pretty heady stuff, but hopefully made easier by watching it on TV.
If you didn’t graduate high school and have been thinking about getting your GED, what are you waiting for? Why not make the call to learn what’s involved?
If you’re over 20 years of age, get in touch with Bob Jackson at 377-0990 or at JacksoBo@collier.k12.fl.us. If you’re under 20, contact Linda Bonas at 377-0981 or BonasLi@collier.k12.fl.us. I wish you the best in your pursuit. I’m sure it’s not easy, but also pretty sure it’s worth the effort.
Communication is so important, especially in this fast-paced world we live in, so I want to remind you about a communication opportunity the school district is proud to offer. It’s the chance to pick up the phone and speak directly with our Supt. Dr. Dennis L. Thompson, from 5:30-6 p.m., the second Monday of each month, during the live edition of the “Open Mic” TV show on The Education Channel, cable 20.
The superintendent will be standing by to speak with you and answer your questions, this Monday, Oct. 13.
All you have to do is call 377-1020 at any time during that half-hour (the earlier the better, though). We’ll hook you up with Dr. Thompson so you can ask your question.
