Two Bonita Springs men were arrested by two agencies in connection with over a dozen car burglaries in Bonita Springs and North Naples.
Michael D. Backman, 24, is back in jail after being released from prison in May.
Backman, who lists a local address of 4112 Pine Lake Road in Bonita Springs and a permanent address of 8116 Mantanzas Road in South Fort Myers, was arrested by Lee County deputies on Wednesday and charged with seven counts of burglary, four counts of grand theft, two counts of petty theft, and one count each of obtaining goods illegally, theft of a firearm, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of not more than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. His prison record shows he was convicted in Orange County on four counts – two in 2006 and two in 2007 – for burglary.
Collier County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Christopher Michael Poore, 22, of Bonita Springs on Wednesday and charged him in connection with seven car burglaries in Pelican Bay. Poore was charged with multiple counts of burglary and petty theft and one count of grand theft.
Collier County arrest reports say the burglaries occurred in the early morning hours in south Pelican Bay in North Naples. All of the vehicles were unlocked and parked in driveways in front of houses, deputies say.
Credit cards were reported stolen from inside one of the vehicles. Further investigation by deputies revealed the credit cards had been used at several locations around Bonita Springs, reports said.
According to Lee County Sheriff’s Office reports:
On Wednesday, deputies received an anonymous tip that Backman was inside a residence at 4412 Pine Lake Circle, which is adjacent to Gary Road.
The renter, Poore, at first denied, then admitted Backman was staying at the house and was inside.
Poore gave deputies permission to search for Backman and any illegal drugs or stolen property. They found Backman who, with his girlfriend Lindsay Bailey, 19, were arrested on drug charges. He for possession of not more than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia; she for possession of paraphernalia and possession of a controlled drug without a prescription.
The detective noticed that Poore’s image was the one seen on the surveillance tape at the convenience store. Numerous stolen items were recovered from the house.

So the stupid Pelican Bay residents don't know how to lock their vehicles or take their credit cards into the house. Seems that having lots of money does not mean they have brains. They should be arrested for putting temptation out into the open.

Freedomsailor... are you also on board, then, with the "She was asking for it" rape defense? Nice thinking. I hope & pray you don't live in my neighborhood.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, I love hearing complaints about people who became wealthy by educating themselves, making good investments, managing their finances, so they can live the good life. Yep, you poor GED whiners need to look in the mirror and yell at the person who failed you. BTW, do some research you boneheads, the population of Pelican Bay pays more money into Collier County Taxes, than the rest of the area. You benifit from our tax dollars, so shut the hell up. Do something with you lives, and stop whining.

ok cit10driver...they worked for their wealth and I for one am not jealous. So what if they pay more taxes....doesn't make them smart enough to NOT leave valuables in their vehicles!
squall-line....since when do babies, children and the elderly qualify " she was asking for it" come into play with the rape defense?
Lock your vehicles and don't keep personal items in them. When will people learn?

He obviously went to the Chinese buffet and used the credit cards to the horror of the owner. "Big boy, why you eat so much. Rice, vegetable, good for you. You been here four hours, you come back no more!"

#16 justsoyouknow....yes, it seems so, doesn't it?
No matter what the topic, someone has to turn it into a political issue.
If there was a story ( hyprothetical) that a baby was attacked by a dog, someone would blog that it's because the dog was hungary because the owners couldn't afford food because of the economy, because of politics!
Blame others.

Politics in burglary, and a smattering of reverse class envy to boot, what an enlightening bunch of comments!
justsoyouknow, I guess some folks only see in red or blue and can't see reality.
No matter where you live or work, it is only prudent to lock your doors and secure your valuables. We park our cars in our garage and still lock the doors. Why? Although we have alarm sensors on the garage doors, smart crooks can still gain entry. So with locked and alarm armed vehicles we add just one more layer of protection. Deterrents work. Crooks will opt for an open door unless they are after a specific item they are aware you own.
Hi eaglebeak. There have been palmetto berry pickers in our neighborhood recently. I have the property posted and fenced, but still have caught a few trying to gain access. Now, I always wonder if they are there only for berries. One thing for sure, they don't like big dogs! LOL. I have a speaker outside and can cue a tape of our two dogs barking up a storm and then they join in live as well. I won't let the dogs out if I see the pickers. I don't want my dogs hurt. So many different ways to reduce risk for burglary, theft and your life, so few seem aware how simple these actions are.

Hi back BTV....I've had to have to police here for not only the fire, but mail box damage. They hear and see my dogs in the windows....and they congraduate me on having a security system!
It's not fool proof, I know, but better than leaving cell phones, GPS, watches, cash, credit cards etc, in my vehicle!

Can't any of you spell?
#19 Posted by Coler on October 9, 2008 at 12:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I feel absolutely no compassion for both of the stupid people listed in this story.
Mr. Poore got what was coming his way for robbing the Pelican Bay people.
The idiots in Pelican Bay got what was coming their way for being too stupid to lock up their cars. The cars they all drive have remote keys to them, and there is absolutely no excuse for not locking your doors.

#9 ... when you pay 2.9 mil for a house your taxes should be higher. You are no better than me or any of us. You are probably one of those who request a new table when a happy family with a littel baby gets sat next to you... are you related to Dennis Thompson ???? private beach, private roads, you deserve to pay more... in fact I think you shoul dhave a 10% increase for being a pompous jerk

"You are probably one of those who request a new table when a happy family with a littel baby gets sat next to you... "
Well, I'm that guy if the kid is a brat! I don't care. If you can't control your little beast you shouldn't be bringing it out to dinner. That "happy" family is usually a bunch of drunk rednecks out for their one big meal of the year.
Let's see how much further from two white trash clowns breaking into cars we can get in one article. v2q903 nailed it along with a few others. Some are just too dense to get it.
