— Country legend David Allan Coe is the headline performer for Bike Night on Wednesday at the Collier County fairgrounds.

The fairgrounds' gates open at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with local band Triton taking the stage at 7 p.m. Coe will immediately follow.

The singer-songwriter has released more than 40 albums and written songs for artists such as Johnny Paycheck, Tanya Tucker, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Tammy Wynette, Oakridge Boys, Kid Rock and many others, according to a news release from Cat Country 107.1, the local radio station sponsoring the show.

I wonder if he will do some of the "classics"?

#2 Posted by swampbuggy on October 10, 2008 at 6:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Seen him many a time in my younger years at Cains Ballroom, in Tulsa Ok.

Worth the $10.00 bucks.

#9 Posted by Duh_novan on October 10, 2008 at 7:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Understandable, but on the bright side none of his songs contain the word "Hussein".

#10 Posted by swampbuggy on October 10, 2008 at 7:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

But that do contain the word African-American

Liestopper:
Is that because of some words in some songs?
Or do you know him personally?

#16 Posted by houdal on October 10, 2008 at 9:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Coe isn't a racist.

He hates them all.

#17 Posted by RXT on October 10, 2008 at 10:57 p.m. (Suggest removal)

#21 Posted by HassenBinSober on October 11, 2008 at 5:26 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Do you thing Todd Snider had Coe in mind?

"Old-timer, old-timer, it's too late to die young now.
Old-timer. Five-and-dimer tryin' to find a way
to age like wine somehow.

I've met every fool that ever signed their name upon these walls
in the backs of all these beer joints and concert halls.
I've been through seven managers, five labels,
a thousand picks and patch cables,
three vans, a band, a bunch of guitar stands
and cans and cans and cans of beer
and bottles of booze and bags of pot
and a thousand other things that I've forgot
I thought that I'd be dead by now.
But I'm not."

And for what it's worth, the Perfect Country Song Coe is known for was written by a peace-loving, Vietnam war-hating hippie named Steve Goodman.

Who is dead.

Coe is a drunk...Saw him perform about 15 years ago and he couldn't remember the lyrics -- to his own songs. That's why his tickets are only $10. I do like him, but not his antics of being drunk on stage. Families, do NOT take your children to see him...Unless you are drunks yourselves. It's too bad he became an alcoholic. His music is (was) good.

In David's defense about being a racist, when I saw him in late 1979, his bass guitar player was a black man.

And yes he had been partying, got mad on stage because his hair was tangled up in his guitar, he left and went straight to my across the street neighbors house, like he always did when he came to town and continued partying all night.
We always knew he was at my neighbors house because of all the black limos lining the street.

I love the way his git-tar is painted up to match the battle flag of the rebel army that tried to destroy this country 150 years ago. Talk about terrorism. How many Americans died defeating that group?
