Finnish choir to perform at Pine Ridge Middle School in N. Naples

— A choral group from Finland will perform Monday at Pine Ridge Middle School in North Naples.

The 40-member Sibelius High School Chamber Choir from Helsinki will perform at 9:15 a.m. Monday for students at the middle school, 1515 Pine Ridge Road. The choir is expected to sing a variety of songs from traditional choral literature to Finnish songs and jazz, according to a news release from the Collier County School District.

After the concert, the Finnish choir will spend a class period with both the Pine Ridge beginning chorus and advanced chorus classes, where they are expected to share in the singing of a Finnish choral piece that Pine Ridge students have learned, as well as other choral pieces.

This visit was all made possible when Dr. Marion Dolan, artistic director for the Naples Choir Project, found out that the Finnish choir would be performing at the University of Miami's choral festival in mid-October. Dolan asked Choral Director Marjukka Riihimaki if the group could could come to Naples. Pine Ridge music teacher Cindy Mueller waseager to involve her students in this cross-cultural event, according to the news release.

The Finnish group has performed in Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, Argentina and the U.S.
